11.6 Grams of Caffeine in Boost?
Every now and then I get an email that makes me shake my head and laugh at the same time. Here’s what came in today.
“Please add the Boost line of products to your website. I had no idea why I was shaking after drinking a boost for breakfast and one for lunch (along with my normal diet coke). I finally called the Nestle hotline (1-800-247-7893) and discovered that each bottle contained 11.6 mg caffeine (the same as in an 8 oz cup of coffee). That sh** should be labeled! P.S. I had the chocolate high protein version. I’m sure the caffeine content varies by flavor, etc.”
Wait, then I got a correction…….
“I should have said 11.6 GRAMS of caffeine is in each 8 oz bottle of Boost High Protein chocolate drink. thanks!”
Where do I start with this one???? I’ll just say honey, if you drank 11.6 GRAMS of caffeine you wouldn’t be shaking and writing emails, you’d be dead!

How much, if any, caffeine do they actually contain?

But no, really, they’ll say that any amount of caffeine is “the same as in an 8 oz cup of coffee.” I don’t know what they think their getting away with. Is Boost part of the caffeine database, Fun Stuff?
The only way that number is the amount of caffeine in an 8oz cup of coffee is if it is centigrams, because a cup of coffee has roughly 80-120 mg caffeine, as we’ve all heard from every energy shot ever made. So 11.6 centigrams would be 116 mg.
I’ve never heard of any company using centigrams in measuring caffeine content. Caffeine isn’t listed as an ingredient on the label so the caffeine would have to come from the chocolate which is on par with 11.6mg.
BTW there is a coffee flavored one so perhaps she was confused but in the email she was talking about the chocolate flavored.
Must’ve been the coffee. There’s no way the chocolate had even that much, let alone the 11.6g.
11.6mg of caffeine might be in a poorly decaffeinated coffee cup. I can’t remember how much 8oz of decaff has, but I think it’s something like 2-10mg of caffeine. Don’t quote me on that, but I’m fairly certain that there is a very slight caffeine content.

it goes to show you that some people are totally clueless when it comes to how much caffeine they take in a day, let alone writing a correction for GRAMS instead of mg…. I’m sure FIXX and Redline would get a kick out of this!

Oh my god, WAAAAAAAAY off bud. 11.6 grams of caffeine is extremely lethal. I took 6 200mg pills of No-doz (1200mg all together) thinking that they were 20mg pills and had to go to the hospital to get my stomach pumped. 400mg is considered overdose on caffeine. 11.6 GRAMS of caffeine would kill you, this drink would be illegal…
