Caffeine FAQ

We’ve been deluged with emails from all the curious visitors to this site. Questions ranging from “How much caffeine is in X?” to “Where do you live?” We don’t have time to reply to all of them, so we’ll answer the most frequently asked ones here:

  • How much caffeine is in X?
Check the Caffeine Drink Database and the Caffeine Food Database. If it’s not in there then we haven’t got around to adding it yet, or have not been able to determine the caffeine amounts in the product (e.g. “proprietary blends”).
  • What has the highest concentration of caffeine?
Go to the caffeine database, and click on the mg/oz column heading. Just like magic all the items are sorted! Clicking again will change the sort order. From here you can easily determine the most/least concentrated form of caffeine. Generally espresso coffee is the most concentrated – however there have recently been a number of products appearing that are stronger than espresso.
  • What is the time frame of the Death Calculators?
It has to do with the level of caffeine in your system at once – which maybe depend on many things. See the full explanation here.
  • Does product X contain caffeine?
Have a look on the nutrition label. Then have a look at which ingredients contain caffeine.
  • Where can I buy X?
Usually at your local 7-11 or grocery store. For more specialized (or discounted for volume) check the Caffeine Database – many entries have a small “Buy” link on them that will take you directly to an on-line vendor.
  • Where do you get the caffeine levels from?
We try our best to get it right. No we don’t just make it up. See the caffeine source reference.
  • Can you add X to the database?
If you have serving size/mg caffeine (backed up with a reliable source) we can generally add it.
  • Can I have the source code for the Death by Caffeine calculator?
Nope. It’s not a hard thing to build yourself, and we don’t want to spend all day explaining how to use it, how to modify the code to suit a particular purpose, or debugging other people’s additions. You can link to us all you want, though :)
  • What does X taste like?
There are some good review sites around including Screaming Energy, and Dan Mayers site here.

I was reading this site and I absolutely love caffeine drinks adn think that this site is also awesome. I enjoy Moster, Full THrottle, and Rockstar. I was curious to know though, the calculator you have created, how do you figure out how much it would take to kill a person? I was wondering what equation would be used in figuring this out. Also I was wondering what time span you would need to frink that lethal dose in for it to actually be lethal. Finally, I was wondering if the calculator was based just on the amount of caffeine or if it considered other chemicals that would affect a person’s body. I look forward to hearing a response from you since i find this all very interesting. Thanks

I’m allergic to caffine, but that’s a little irrelevant to my question. I was wondering what the time frame is…how quickly do you have to drink this stuff to actually be killed by it?

Caffeiene is Ruling My Life September 27th, 2006 11:33 pm

So which has the most amount of caffeine in the smallest dose? I mean like drinkable stuff, not like that rocket syrup stuff that you ADD to something. Oh and I have an addition to make on the List for the database; its called
Powershot, it contains 30ml and 100 mg of caffeine for every 30ml. theres a site for it;
http://www.powershot.ca I think its french cause that was what came up first on the site instead of english. I drank 2 of these at once one time and i got twitchy, i was like thinking at the speed of light.

Re: “Myself” Converting weight in stone to US pounds. A stone equivalates to 16 pounds, so a man of ten stone would wiegh one hundred and sixty pounds.

Re: “Myself” An earlier post erroneously stated a stone is 16 lbs. A stone is 14 pounds (6.35029318 kg).

Yeah, but you fail to mention that physicians generally recommend that pregnant and nursing women avoid caffeine due to health risks. Caffeine is also cited in the medical literature as a complicating factor for heart attacks due to arrythymias.

where’s da bathroom?

[...] And this just in: “In Canada, carbonated beverages other than cola are not caffeinated…. 7-up, Root Beer, Mountain Dew, etc. are caffeine-free.” [...]

The amounts of caffeine required to kill u must be in ur body all at once. Example: I weigh 132lbs. It would take 32 cans of cocaine to kill me. Caffeine generally acts within 30 mins so I would have to consume 32 cans of these within that time….nearly impossible.

I got a huge box of Stay Alert gum from ebay, i didnt read the back and didnt know the amount of caffeine so i kept on chewing till i hit about 10 of them in under an hour, thats way too much, i could feel my heart beating and it hurt it was pumping so hard, but damn is stay alert effective!
