Study finds link between caffeine and obesity

There was a study done, just announced today, that claims a link between obesity and caffeine. Apparently, having caffeine in your bloodstream makes your body convert sugars into fat quicker, instead of metabolizing it. Other sugar-laden drinks like lemonade don’t seem to suffer from this problem.

Even the researchers admit, however, that the study has a very small sample size, and they only tested on young women who fasted for 24 hours then drank a beverage. No saying how food in the system and/or existing sugars and fats in the bloodstream play a role.

Final Conclusion: We still don’t know.

Ironically a popular method of weight loss was to combine caffeine with the (now-banned) stimulant ephedra and aspirin (the “ECA Stack”).

My final conclusion: I’ve been drinking coffee with sugar, at least 2-3 cups a day for about 22 years and my height/weight ratio is normal.

I don’t know where these organizations get the ideas for these studies. It seems that almost every study done to try and prove coffee is bad for you is dead wrong.

Now if you’ll excuse me, my Black & Decker SmartBrew just summoned me.

I usually don’t drink softdrinks, like Coca~Cola or Pepsi. I have just joined the Gevalia Coffee program and am yet to make my first pot of coffee. I do, however, drink tea on occasion and, personally, I prefer to make my own, and I to Green Tea and Black Herbal Tea.

My Gevalia Coffee Brewer makes a 10-cup pot and at most, I drink maybe 2 to 3 10-cup pots in a week. However, this may change when I get married because my wife loves coffee, and I will be sharing my Gevalia Coffee orders with her until I get her to the United States.

At first it seems somewhat surprising to me, but I now just realized that A: If it gets you wired, it can’t be that good for you B: If the majority of caffeinated drinks have weird names like “Dr. Pib” and “Pepsi” they probably get somethin’ seriouslt f***ed up about them, and C: If they make you wanna pee faster than water does, then there is definitely something weird going on there.

Caffeine stimulates the appetite and makes you eat more, even when you’re full already

No, caffeine does not stimulate the appetite, it SUPRESSES it. Caffeine is a stimulant, just like crack. You don’t see too many obese crack addicts, now do ya?

Ephedra isn’t banned anymore, just restricted to 10mg per capsule/pill/etc.

Even when it was banned, you could still get it as Ma-Huang tea.

Darn right Alex. Caffine supresses appetite, I’ve used it for that purpose and it works well. It’s MSG and it’s derrivatives that make you feel additional appetite (not hungry per say, but you still feel like eating. “The Munchies”), so all those artificial sweeteners you use (especailly nutra-sweet) are what’s making you eat more. Same with Diet [Energy Drink or soda of your choice].
Diet like, seefood diet. You see food, you eat it.

i am super skinny, in fact, i weigh 98 lbs. at the age of 25. I drink soda pop 6 times a day on average. I dont seem to have a problem with gaining weight from this, although i seem to have stomach issues and vomit after drinking high caffine drinks…can anyone suggest a solution to this problem.
