It is such a relief to find this site. I have never had a problem with a caffeine reaction until a few weeks ago. I am 68 and could always drink as much coffee as I wanted. The only side effect was I would get jittery after several cups. For the past several years I seldom drink coffee and then only one cup.

In the meantime, I started drinking green tea for the anti-oxidants. Recently, I have been drinking a can of Arizona Green Tea every day. About three weeks ago I started itching on my feet, ankles, hands and forearms. Then it progressed to a visible rash. I changed to organic soap, but the problem persisted.

By process of elimination, I thought it was the green tea and stopped drinking it. After several days the condition was getting better. Yesterday, I had a Mountain Dew with lunch and guess what. This morning the rash and the itch had returned.

That is what caused to search for caffeine allergy and led me to this site.

Hopefully, my conclussion is correct. Time will tell.

I'm so glad that I'm not alone! I suffer with IBS and I mainly drink tea.I drink coffee, say 2 mugs a month on average. But I was trying to stay awake this morning and drank coffee like I'd never drank before, I had 4 large mugs! (Stupid girl, I know)! About 20 minutes after having the last mug, I suddenly started to suffer the symptoms of when I get a bad IBS attack, but without the bad stomach. Suddenly sweat started pouring from me, to the point that my hair was soaked. I thought I should try and get to the toilet, as I felt VERY sick, but my body told me as soon as I lifted my head, to quickly lie down again as I was going to faint. So I lay there for a good 10 minutes, (seemed like forever), unable to move and unable to get to any level of comfort. Just, sick, hot and faint. Then the icy cold sweats kicked in and then I must have just fell to sleep and woke 1/2 an hour later feeling as right as rain. It wasn't an IBS attack, as I always get the bad stomach and that kicks off the above symptoms and I thought it could be a bug, but after waking and finding I was fine again, thought it can't be. The only thing I can think of is the coffee and thought 'nah it can't be'! But thankfully I found all your shared experiences. I think it must be that and I'll not be drinking that much coffee again, I assure you! Thanks for all making me realise that I'm not going crazy!

Does anyone else feel like they're about to have an out of body experience when they consume caffeinated products? I do. I feel like my soul is trying to fly out of my body, and I have to calm myself down and suppress that sensation. It's very weird and creepy, but it only happens when I consume caffeinated products.

p.s.

I forgot to add that when I consume caffeine, my heart beats erratically, I get cotton-mouth, and I also experience the excessive yawning but I still can't catch a good deep breath.

This website/article is a God-send! I thought I was alone in my caffeine-allergies. Now I don't feel like a weirdo anymore *whew*

I am wondering if there is something seriously wrong with caffeine, as it makes so many people sick. I used to be able to drink caffeinated products until my heart was content, but something changed about 6 years ago (that's when I started developing caffeine-allergies). At first I thought I was having anxiety/panic-attacks, but then I started noticing that I only felt this way when I consumed caffeine. When I consume caffeine: my chest tightens up, I have trouble breathing, I get dizzy & light-headed, I'm mentally disoriented/scatter-brained/& unfocused, I have cold tingly/prickly sensations in my legs/feet/& fingers, I feel faint, I get a stomach ache (& bowel movements), & feel panicky to the point of going to the ER (if it weren't so expensive). Nowadays I try to check the ingredients of EVERYTHING (food, drink, medicine) to make sure that it doesn't have any caffeine in it. One time someone gave me a mountain dew & it made me SO sick. Excedrin is an aspirin that you want to avoid if you have caffeine allergies, because it's loaded with caffeine (I found out the hard way earlier today & almost went to the ER). When I go to Starbucks, I only drink DECAF, & I make it a point to remind the Starbucks associates multiple times that I have caffeine allergies so that they don't accidentally make me a caffeinated drink. One time, they gave me a caffeinated drink anyway & forgot to make it decaf...the little "decaf" box on the cup was even checked off (I found out the hard way that it was caffeinated)!

Was great to find this web site because I've had problems with caffeine since I was kid but I only realised that the caffeine was causing my depression, anxiety, not wanting to go out, etc. in my mid-30s. Even that with knowledge, I still delude myself that I can drink a cup of tea now and again.
It's really an indidious addiction.

I’ve known since I was six that I was allergic to caffeine. I’m eighteen now but when I was little I use to bang my head against the walls because of the pain. My parents never knew why I did it and when I was in first grade they started writing down everything I ate and then they figured it out I was allergic to caffeine, I get sever migraines that’s about it.

Every once in a while, I have this problem with not breathing right, excessive yawning, and heart racing. I am still trying to figure out what is causing me to react this way. I have been told that it's hyperventilation, but breathing in a bag doesn't work to get rid of it and I really don't think it's that. It lasts anywhere from a few days to several weeks, sometimes a month or longer. I have grown tired of going to the dr to get no results. My heart is fine, I don't have asthma, I don't know what it is. I have noticed that when I drink caffeine, it makes it worse.
Do you all think this is from the caffeine? I haven't read anyone commenting about the excessive yawning. It's like I can't get a full breath. Its very annoying!
Anyone going through this?
