Quite Possibly the Most Powerful Energy Drink Ever

Seriously, the drink may mean the end of this blog. In the “before time,” conversations generally went a little something like this:

So, what’s a good energy drink in terms of strength?
Well there’s a lot to choose from, based on caffeine content, taurine, ginseng, green tea extracts…
Well… what if I’m just interested in caffeine content?
Well just go to The Caffeine Database and look around!

The point, probably lost, is that there’s a lot of drinks, in varying sizes and caffeine contents, that also contain a lot of other things.

So then this new thing came out. It’s called VPX Redline Fat Burner. Amazon is lacking a little information, so here’s a little more:

Check out this freaky scientific VPX breakthrough: RED LINEĀ®: is the only matrix ever developed to shred fat through the shivering response in the body. By shivering the body burns huge amounts of stored bodyfat for energy in an effort to keep the body warm. That’s not all! In addition to shivering, you’ll also be sweating up a thermogenic storm. The combined mechanisms of these two processes results in unparalleled fat loss!

What fun. Now, it’s pretty obvious looking at the ingredients that there’s caffeine. But get this: all of the aforementioned goodness, and the serving size is FOUR ml. About one TENTH of an ounce. The whole bottle has 240 ml, or 60 servings. Basically, a bottle of this, less than the size of a normal can of coke, WILL kill you. This is nothing to be playing around with.

I have friends. Not just normal friends, mind you. The kind of friends that voluntarily live on the streets. The kind of friends who, when drinking, race to forgetting. The kind of friends who take caffeine pills, ephedrine pills, and asprin.. all at once. One, in particular, drinks and consumes over a gram of caffeine daily, to stave off the headaches. So you know this is a serious review:

oh yeah, it’s definately 90% caffeine. the aftertaste is unmistakeable. the best part is that since i didn’t have my normal “dose” this morning, i probably won’t actually feel sh*t.

[10 minutes later]

the caffeine kicked in a lot faster than i expected. though in retrospect, it normally does when it’s in syrup form and tastes like ass.

feel oddly cold too. took me a minute to realize that while i still was warm, it was that ’shiver’ reflex kicking in. it’s a lot like when
you get a chill at the back of your neck, but somewhat continuous.

So what’s in this magical bottle of awesome? Caffeine, Green Tea, Yerba Mate, 5-HTP (5 hydroxy-1-tryptophan), cAMP, Yohimbe, Evodiamine, and Vinpocetine. And a few other things.

I know, I know, so here’s some more info:

cAMP is cyclic adenosine monophosphate. It supposedly “sparks many intercellular processes.” Whatever that means. Increased concentrations supposedly raise thyroid horomone levels, and help fat burning (would help explain why it’s in a fat-burning supplement).

Yohimbe is a bark extract from a tree in Africa. It’s considered a natural aphrodisiac, and sold here to treat imotency, dialate pupils, and stimulate fat loss. It can also mess with your blood pressure, so watch out.

Evodiamine is derived from some Chinese fruit called Evodia Rutaecarpa. Supposedly burns fat.

Vinpocetine is an alkaloid derived from some periwinkle plant. It is used in Europe, Japan, and Mexico to treat crebrovascular and cognitive disorders. Some people claims it elevates metabolism, but with no proof.

And the interesting one in the group: 5-HTP. I made sure to spell it out, so the smart ones in the group have already figured out the key: Tryptophan. It’s the same stuff in turkey that makes you sleepy, and there’s scientific evidence of it. The 5-HTP compound is sometimes used to treat mild depression since, somehow, it can increase serotonin levels. It can also affect appetite, which may be part of why they put it in here. The other part? When you’re jacking up a drink with this much caffeine, you’re going to get jitters and “scatterbrain.” This may actually cut the disconnected thoughts out and allow you to think normally, but still give you the energy effects of caffeine. Awesome.

Apparently you can buy this stuff at places like Super Supplements, GNC, and even some 7-11s. The concentrate isn’t something you should take a guzzle of. Or even a large sip. If you search on the internet, you can see some people who took the recommended dose, and started blacking out towards the end of a workout. Blacking out. 4 mililiters. Damn. There’s also a ready-to-drink version (I would bet that’s the one at 7-11), and half a bottle is all that’s recommended. Pay attention to it. People are comparing the 1/2 bottle to a full hit of ephedra. Unless you’ve done that before and know the effect it has on your body, don’t go doing anything macho with this one. Go do that with redbull.

Just for poignant measure, look at this review:

I recently purchased the liquid form of redline at a local 7 Eleven store.

It was the first time I have ever drank an energy drink that had such an affect. With in a few minutes , I started to sweat and shake. Being familiar with the effects of narcotics, I must say the feeling felt a lot like cocaine feels.

The most disturbing trait is that my penis shriveled up like I just got out of the icy cold ocean. I can’t help but think that this product will be taken off the market. The effects are too strong for some minors and may not be safe for people on certain medication which are yet to be known.

And this one:

I tried Redline today while heading to work. I am a huge fan of RedBull & Diet Rockstar. I am 33 years old & in excellent condition.

Having not read the warning label I drank the whole bottle within 5 minutes. Within 10 minutes I was blacking out behind the wheel & shaking uncontrollably. I pulled over at a gas station — I was having difficulty in swallowing and could not stand, breathe or see straight.

I could not even walk for the convulsions. A bystander called the paramedics. Needless to say – my blood pressure was sky high & I thought I was on my way out.

I feel this drink is extremely dangerous & should not be on the market. There needs to be a very visible warning label not to drink the whole bottle for beginners. It has been 5 hours now & I still do not feel normal.

This drink could seriously kill someone if not informed.
I am sorry but I will never drink this again nor recommend it to fellow peers.

THAT DUDE May 28th, 2009 4:53 am

i love redline. it is the best energy drink and the only one that actually even works for me. I regularly drink coffee anyways, so maybe I have a tolerance of some sort but this shit tastes so good and makes you feel great! Narcotic-like feelings? Hell yes dude that’s why I love the shit.

I love Redline!! I drank a whole bottle of the RTD(two servings) and I felt great! Working out was a breeze and very enjoyable and I had no shivering or anything like that-just a noticable increase in focus and overall happiness/energy. I only wish it wasnt so expensive!

HUH? Dangerous?
I drink stuff like this and it doesn’t do much at all. After all the hype, i decided to try redline and I drank the whole bottle (2 servings) …not 4ml…I think you need to dbl check the serving size: 4oz is what the bottles say. Anyhow…drank it down….no shivers, not much of anything. Dangerous? I doubt it. Wate of money…maybe …maybe not if someone likes it..

anonymous June 24th, 2009 8:46 am

I personally LOVE this stuff! It is the best damn energey drink EVER! However I will have to agree with everyone else, if you drink to much to fast, or don’t have a tolerance for stuff like this the side affects can be horrible. I drank 4 bottles once in less than an hour and felt like i did an 8-ball of coc. I was shaky and felt like my heart was litterally going to explode through my chest. Def sip this, and if you can’t handle stuff like this only drink the recommeneded half a bottle. Other than that if drinkin right it is AWESOME!

Hey I was hunting for a powerful drink one day, and I found this Redline drink. I got the extreme version and tried to see what would happen. I drank it [after having a redbull and a wired3000x taurine] and it didn’t do anything. 4 hours later, I watched a movie….and I fell asleep. Yea, I did sweat a little bit, and have the creeping feeling that I will explode, but other than that, it didn’t do much….

Amanda July 4th, 2009 3:08 pm

i am buzzing on this stuff right now!
its absolutely fantastic.
i can see how people can have terrible effects by drinking the whole can.. i am on less than half and it is more than enough!
as long as you are cautious, enjoy! cause you dont get energy more wicked than this, and i sure dont want it off the market!

“i love ur website and i love coke even thoy its full of caffeine”
Full of caffeine? If it was then surely it would be classed as an energy drink. The caffeine is just for flavour. Even energy drinks aren’t “full” of caffeine. Most only have the same amount as a regular cup of coffee.

I posted a comment on here back on April 23, 2008, it’s on page 17. I just want to say that 15 months later and I still have bad panick attacks with no history of them before my run in with redline last year. Still have to go to the doctor. It gave me a heart condition. Be carefull what you take in.

By the looks of this description, it looks to me like all this does is lower your body temperature to make yourself shiver and sweat which is an exact description of a fever.

I’m 15 and female. the other morning as I was on my way to the gym I decided to run the vitamin shop to get an energy drink, I ran across redline energy drink and decided to buy it. I drank the whole bottle within 10 mins of having it. I didn’t really feel different at all until I started doing my daily crunches, as I noticed I was starting to sweat and I was only on my 30th crunch! It was interesting. I soon got on the tredmill and ran 2 miles and barely walked… It just gave me a lot of energy! I liked the drink, I think it worked good. The only problem was at the end of my workout I rememberd I had not eatin that day and I felt like I was going to vomit, but I didn’t. I think as long as you eat you could drink the drink as long as you’ve had no past issues with energy drinks.

Valon August 28th, 2009 2:52 pm

I’m 19 years old and chugged a full bottle of this stuff this morning on an empty stomach and felt pretty good throughout the day, I even managed to work better than I ever have before and had the energy to work at a faster and more consistent rate throughout the day.

I work in a factory so it’s easy to get exhausted, but this drink significantly improved my performance and didn’t have the smallest negative effect on me.

I’m not sure what makes me so different from all the other people who take half a sip and start convulsing, but personally my friend and I really liked the drink. I’m a big guy though, so that may have something to do with it, however my friend who also drank a full bottle with me is a runner and very skinny and it didn’t give him any negative effects either.

Personally I’m just glad that I found an energy drink that actually works for me.

tonydawg August 29th, 2009 3:04 am

dude im a energy junkie i get more high off of monster and red bull then i do nicotine and weed. I tryd it once and i was on a road trip, long story short i drank the whole botle and no effect. gotta say i was a little disapointed.

The person who wrote this is extremely bias. He wrote the article and found people that gave the product bad reviews and posted them onto his website. And your “friends” who pop caffeine aspirin and ephedrine, that was the run of the mill diet pill a short time ago. You can still buy it today! He also tried to use these “friends” to scare us into thinking this stuff is incredibly strong! I don’t know of anyone who followed the directions (drank half a bottle) and didn’t mix it with alcohol, that had a severe reaction. All the reactions were common to a high dose of caffeine and nothing serious. Ya’ll are crazy!

Spencer D September 20th, 2009 6:15 am

It’s very strong as these reviews suggest. If you’re tolerance level is higher it obviously won’t hit you that hard. It’s really more of a metabolism boost than a head/brain thing. (That’s my experience.) Never, ever take it without food. I forgot once and it sucks, I was so sick for hours. As certain quantities this can make you sweat and get your metabolism going. I’m sure if I took enough I could lose some weight being fairly sedentary. If I was working out or doing something active or athletic I would take it really easy on this stuff. This and strenuous exercise can easily lead to your heart feeling funky and just becomes to much. It reminds me of ephedra. If your not experienced with energy supplements or have any of the commonly mentioned health conditions that you see on the labels of stuff like this…well, lets just say that this is a label that you should take seriously. Unless you have a significant caffeine tolerance built up you are going to feel really feel it’s effects!

In conclusion: Very strong, somewhat metabolism focused effects, more expensive than most, and don’t forget to eat!

daniel October 4th, 2009 10:45 am

Im starting to drink this now before workouts. Its completely normal!!!!! I never drink it on an empty stomach because i follow the directions unlike other stupid people who dont then end up throwing up someplace. I eat something small, like fruit of granola bar, then i go work out for hours. It helps you so much. You are not shaking. You are not cold. You barelly even feel energized. The best part of this drink is that it gives you a nice energy boosts that LAST for hours no matter how much you run or workout. I ran 4.5 miles at a 6:00 minute pace. Then i worked out for an 1 1/2 hours. It was Great! Thank you redline for existing!!!!

frank October 15th, 2009 5:26 pm

dont do like i did lol. i drank three bottles of this stuff in 30 min. i thot i was going to die. my heartsrate was through the roof. i hard a hard time breathing and even my vision was impared. not advisable.

none y0 October 19th, 2009 11:21 pm

I made the mistake of drinking TWO redlines at once a long time ago. At times I almost felt drunk, when I would move my head fast things would kinda spin on me. and I was shaking like no other. Right after I drank them my boyfriend and I went to go watch a movie in theaters and that made me almost want to die. With that much energy having to sit down is like torchure. I still drink them only on rare occations but i’m really careful with how much I take.

KriLL November 1st, 2009 5:18 pm

Man, the ignorant people on this forum agitate me.
of course you downed the whole bottle and of course you felt fine. The article adresses the 240 ml concentrated version of what you kids took. GNC sells the watered-down version.
damn

Rob Scubelek November 6th, 2009 2:19 pm

I read this article and immediately went out to GNC and bought a bottle of Redline. I just drank the whole thing, and I definitely do not feel like I’m about to black out. I don’t even feel particularly jittery, like Monster or Red Bull tends to make me feel. I do, however, feel like I could do a decathalon or two and build a house before bedtime. The bottle only cost me $3.52, which is only a little more than most gas station energy drinks.
