Cubed Coffee Jello
So I found a good little article at a blog called delicious:days. It describes how to make espresso-filled jello cubes. Now, I’ve never even heard of a gelatin sheet, so I don’t know where you can even get it, but here’s the recipe:
- For the espresso jello, soak the gelatine sheets in cold water for 10 minutes. Add water and brown sugar to a pot and bring to a boil. Remove when sugar is dissolved, then add the espresso and the well squeezed gelatine.
- Choose a pan with proper proportions: for instance if you’d like to make larger cubes it may have to be a smaller one, with higher rims. The one I used was 16—16cm (6—6inch). Foil-line the pan; once firm, you can lift the foil right out and cut the jello cleanly. Chill for at least 6 hours, or better over night.
- For the coconut sauce, first heat up heavy cream and coconut milk. In a seperate bowl, combine egg yolk and sugar and beat until the mass becomes creamy and pale in color. Now slowly add the warm milk to the mix, while stirring until well blended. Return the mass back to the pot and constantly turn and stir at medium heat (it should not boil!) until the mix has further thickened.
- Strain the sauce through a sieve and serve with the espresso cubes.
and, of course, the ingredients:
Ingredients for the espresso jello:
120ml espresso (high quality with low acidity, e.g. Cherry Plantation A)
8 sheets of gelatine
450ml water
60g brown sugarIngredients for the coconut sauce:
125 ml heavy cream
125 ml coconut milk
3 egg yolk
40 g sugar
Some people prefer vanilla ice cream instead of the coconut cream sauce, which will cut down on prep time as well. If anyone figures out how to do this with like.. regular jello.. let me know.

“Sheet gelatin gives a better texture than powder gelatin.”
“4 sheets are equivalent to 1 envelope of Knox brand gelatin.”
Hope this helps.
ewwwww..??
who has ever heard of coffee jello? i mean that has to taste funny right??
My grandma makes a jello similar to this. Although her’s has a creamier look to it.
It’s different, but actually, very good. I like it, anyway.
I tasted similar dessert before and had been imitating ever since.
Use unflavored jello like knox brand… mix/flavor it with your favorite coffee…refrigerate. Once jello has set… put a scoop of your favorite vanilla ice cream on top…. it’s very good. Good dessert for coffee lovers out there… even better when ice cream starts to melt… just like having really rich and tasty coffee… enjoy!
Coffee jello (not the Jell-o brand) is an old favorite in New England. It’s on the menu at some old (non-chain) restaurants. It just tastes like a cup of regular coffee. It’s not exotic latte, it’s just old fashioned. And it wiggles just like red jello.
Wherever you can buy chocolate milk and strawberry- flavored milk also offers coffee-flavored milk. Coffee yogurt and coffee candy are in every supermarket, and sometimes coffee jello too.
Coffee has been used as a flavor for so long in New England.

Dude, this is awesome. I can’t wait to try it!
