How Much Caffeine in Redline RTD?

redlinertd.jpgThis question gets asked more than any other – and the quick answer is – we don’t exactly know – but we can make a good guess (which is why it’s not in the caffeine database yet).

UPDATE: This item is now in the caffeine database: 250mg of caffeine per 8oz bottle of Redline RTD.

VPX have not given us a precise answer – and to be honest it’s not so much the caffeine that is the issue with Redline – it is the synergy of a whole bunch of other stimulants.

One representative at VPX claimed that Redline RTD had the equivalent to three cups of coffee. We put this at about 250mg of caffeine. However – is this for 4oz or 8oz?

Here’s what we know about VPX Redline RTD
Comes in an 8oz canister shaped bottle and is made with a proprietary blend totalling 579mg:

  • Caffeine Anhydrous
  • Evoburn (Pure Evodiamine)
  • N-acetyl-L-tyrosine
  • Guggulsterone E&Z
  • Yerba Mate
  • Green Tea
  • 5-HTP (5-hydroxy-L-tryptophan)
  • cAMP (adenosine cyclic 3′5′-monophosphate)
  • Vinpocetine
  • Yohimbine HCl

Ingredients lists are given in order of quantity and Caffeine Anhydrous (dry caffeine) tops the list. Evodiamine apparently raises core body temperature and invokes a “shivering” response. One study on mice produced this response with a dosage of 1-3mg/kg. So we could guess that the dosage of Evodiamine is around 80mg up. L-Tyrosine is often used in considerably higher dosage (see more about Redline ingredients here).

I would estimate that Redline RTD has about 250mg of caffeine – but – reactions to it are likely to be different to a typical energy drink with that much caffeine. This is due to other CNS stimulants such as Yohimbine.

Straight Redline

The RTD is one thing – but straight Redline is another. Redline has a proprietary blend of 910mg per 5ml serving. Yes – that is 5 milliliters. So it is likely that there is far more than 250mg of caffeine per 5mls.

How big is the bottle? 240mls.

We are talking a minimum of 12,000mg (12 grams) of caffeine in the whole bottle of pure Redline – probably even more.

That ain’t no energy drink.

I drink energy drinks religously and I didnt get affected at all

You should all read up on evodiamine. I don’t know about Yohimbe causing nausea in women although I would be inclined to take the word of someone who sells products containing it and receives consumer feedback regarding it. Evodiamine however will definitely cause nausea if enough is taken on an empty stomach whether you are male or female. Some of you may have noticed that even though the nausea was significant and persistent that you never actually had to vomit. This is because in China this drug is well known as a treatment for stomach problems such as abdominal pain, acid regurgitation, nausea, diarrhea, and dysmenorrhea. Evodiamine inhibits both gastric emptying and gastrointestinal transit. The way it was explained to me is simply that your stomach needs to be somewhat coated (have some food in it) before you lock it down to prevent the nausea. I haven’t tried but it may be that something like Pepto Bismol could also work if taken beforehand. Evodiamine is in a class by itself and has many positive uses including possible effectiveness in preventing the spread of certain cancer cells. Read the research since this is a relatively new and powerful drug in western medicine.

I forgot to mention:
“Fasting mice subcutaneously administered 1-3 mg/kg evodiamine showed decreased core body temperature by 1-2 degrees C. This hypothermic effect was prevented by the pretreatment of intraperitoneally administered 10 mg/kg capsazepine, a vanilloid receptor antagonist. On the other hand, food-sated mice subcutaneously administered 1-3 mg/kg evodiamine showed unchanged core body temperature and increased tail skin temperature by more than 5 degrees C, suggesting the increased energy expenditure by enhanced heat dissipation. In conclusion, we have demonstrated that a novel non-pungent vanilloid receptor agonist, evodiamine, mimics the characteristic anti-obese effects induced by capsaicin. Evodiamine would induce heat loss and heat production at the same time and dissipate food energy.”

If you don’t eat beforehand your core body temp can drop as much as 1-2 degrees C. This can make you feel sick by itself. Its this hypothermic (shivering) effect that makes you feel jittery. Your body will shiver just like when you are cold in order to raise your core body temp. Its a given if you don’t eat first. Combine that with the hyperthermic effect and you feel as if you have the flu since you are sweating and having chills which usually make you feel clammy. The psychological effects if you are not prepared for this can be quite disturbing. Again educate yourselves with a simple evodiamine web search (first result) and read the research.

Does anyone know of a redline like drink without the diet drugs

Dr.Nuke January 24th, 2007 2:00 pm

Phimur, what do you mean “redline-like drink without the diet drugs”?

For caffeine, try powershots and the like, or the “Cocaine” energy drink. Pills work well too.
For the taste? I dunno.
For fat buring, etc. try green tea, or some of the other ingredients of redline separately. Ephedra is legal again. (and it hasn’t killed me yet)
For energy in general, just mix a little bit of sugar into some 7-up or sprite or something. No caffiene or diet drugs, and you get a nice buzz. Take more b-viatamin pills too.

???That help any?

vanessa January 24th, 2007 8:47 pm

ps by “diarrhea mouth” i meant im talking alot, not vomitting. just wanted to clear that up

mike January 27th, 2007 4:30 pm

what happens if you drink the whole bottle ar once

Broken7x January 31st, 2007 9:42 am

Mike, if you would be dumb enough to drink the whole bottle at once, i’d laugh. youd want to go to emergency, but they can’t do crap. you just have to let it burn itself out. your head would hurt, your heart would pound 2-3 times faster than usual, youd be annoyingly nausiated, and you’d probably wish you were dead, and curse yourself for that idiotic mistake. how do i know? i did it. (it was a bet)….(i got $50 out of it…)

(it was so worth it.)

The first time I tried RTD, I was called out at night with my GF (We do mortuary transfers-body removal and are on call 24/7). We were dead tired and so we decided to try it. 1 bottle each, and of course, we didn’t read the label. We drank our bottles… just guzzled them down. 10 min later we were REEEEEELING!!!! We didn’t get sick or anything… just was speeding for 7 hours. I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!

ashley February 2nd, 2007 3:51 pm

Corn Videos February 25th, 2007 5:44 pm

Long time energy drink/caffine pill abuser.
Tried my first redline RTD today, before i went to work. After a week of sleeping in till noon, my first day waking up at 5:30 was rough. Luckily i bought a 4 pack since they were on sale at GNC yesterday, and drank a little more than half the bottle on my drive in today. I immediately felt much more alert when i arrived, and had several customers/employees at Price Chopper tell me i was much “perky=er” today than normal. On my break I finished off the bottle. Tasted like an asshole, but worked like a charm. Even though I ate a huge breakfast today, i was hungry again way earlier than normal, so im assuming its the faster metabolism (like weed?). I will most deff. buy this product again soon. Was in a cold sweat for a few minutes now + then, but a very good buzz similar to one i get after a rockstar juiced, but lasting for 4-5 hours.

For all of you people saying how rediculous it is to have 12,000 mgs of caffeine in an 8oz bottle perhaps you should investigate what you are talking about. The “Straight Redline” as the product is referred to is actually a concentrated version that is meant to be taken 5ml at a time. This equates to 250mgs of caffeine per serving just like the Ready To Drink. The concentrated version has 40 servings in it.

Guan-Wen March 23rd, 2007 12:08 am

straight redline is a supplement there’s also single packaged pills like two or three in a package and about the evodiamine well seeing as it is supposed to be a thermogenic somewhat raise body temperature would make sense

Talleric March 28th, 2007 11:17 am

Had my first Redline this morning by mistake, thought I had picked up a Red Bull. Boy was I in for a surprise. I chugged down an 8oz.er, tasted like the other reader said (asshole) but then the ride begun. Within 15 min. I started feeling a little nauseous, ate some of my sandwhich to calm the stomach. Thirty minutes later I was bouncing off the walls. I had to pick the bottle out of the trash to see what it was I ingested. By the time I read through all the small print and warnings, I was having the cold sweats. Thought I was going to have a heart attack, but I reassured myself I had heavier trips than this, I can handle it no problem. Countining to buzz on through the day at this point. All I have to say is buyer beware and you better like the feeling of being cranked up for a few hours.

I drank a redline at my work right before my shift started. I had eaten nothing before and about 20 minutes after I drank it I could not stop shaking and laughing and i was sweating and it was ALMOST not fun. Redline is fine as long as you dont drink it on an empty stomach. I drink it everytime before I drum and its rad.

tony April 20th, 2007 4:04 pm

well there is no way that they can put 12gram fo caffien in it, becouse that is very close to the lethal dosage of caffeine, the lethal dosage of caffeine is about 195mg per kilogram of your body weight. Also i know there is a legal limit to how much caffein is allowed in beverages, i dont know the limit off of the top of my head, but look into it.

Haralambos May 18th, 2007 8:42 pm

Nice!

rochelle June 8th, 2007 10:09 pm

Nick July 10th, 2007 6:53 am

Great, just what we need, a bunch of nurses all cracked out on caffeine…
