How Much Caffeine in Redline RTD?

redlinertd.jpgThis question gets asked more than any other – and the quick answer is – we don’t exactly know – but we can make a good guess (which is why it’s not in the caffeine database yet).

UPDATE: This item is now in the caffeine database: 250mg of caffeine per 8oz bottle of Redline RTD.

VPX have not given us a precise answer – and to be honest it’s not so much the caffeine that is the issue with Redline – it is the synergy of a whole bunch of other stimulants.

One representative at VPX claimed that Redline RTD had the equivalent to three cups of coffee. We put this at about 250mg of caffeine. However – is this for 4oz or 8oz?

Here’s what we know about VPX Redline RTD
Comes in an 8oz canister shaped bottle and is made with a proprietary blend totalling 579mg:

  • Caffeine Anhydrous
  • Evoburn (Pure Evodiamine)
  • N-acetyl-L-tyrosine
  • Guggulsterone E&Z
  • Yerba Mate
  • Green Tea
  • 5-HTP (5-hydroxy-L-tryptophan)
  • cAMP (adenosine cyclic 3′5′-monophosphate)
  • Vinpocetine
  • Yohimbine HCl

Ingredients lists are given in order of quantity and Caffeine Anhydrous (dry caffeine) tops the list. Evodiamine apparently raises core body temperature and invokes a “shivering” response. One study on mice produced this response with a dosage of 1-3mg/kg. So we could guess that the dosage of Evodiamine is around 80mg up. L-Tyrosine is often used in considerably higher dosage (see more about Redline ingredients here).

I would estimate that Redline RTD has about 250mg of caffeine – but – reactions to it are likely to be different to a typical energy drink with that much caffeine. This is due to other CNS stimulants such as Yohimbine.

Straight Redline

The RTD is one thing – but straight Redline is another. Redline has a proprietary blend of 910mg per 5ml serving. Yes – that is 5 milliliters. So it is likely that there is far more than 250mg of caffeine per 5mls.

How big is the bottle? 240mls.

We are talking a minimum of 12,000mg (12 grams) of caffeine in the whole bottle of pure Redline – probably even more.

That ain’t no energy drink.

Tony you got it wrong, 12gram is for Straight Redline, that’s for the entire bottle. It probably has 60 servings in it, and there’s nothing lethal about 200mg of caffeine.

Anyways, Redline has been the best energy drink I’ve found. The only problem is that it’s only at Nutrition stores. At 7-11s I like Monster. What’s a good comp for Redline that’s more readily available?

This stuff is awesome! It’s unforgivably powerful, and is fully capable of giving it’s users an almost euphoric high.

I know the sheer amount of energy you get upon drinking a bottle will have you laughing uncontrollably.

Either that, or resisting sobs. That happens sometimes too.

Not your ordinary drink, so watch out. It is bit addicting, and you think regular caffeine withdraws are annoying…

Just, don’t do anything stressful while under it’s affects. You will likely have a panic attack.

@ those complaining about not shivering and sweating.. I’ve only gotten those effects upon drinking it and remaining still. All three times I drank it in a movie theater, it had me shaking and shivering radically, and the sweat was coming out in the gallons.

this has absolutely no effect on me.

I bought a 4 pack at my local gnc because of all the great things ive heard about it.

I took half a bottle that day, nothing happened.

I woke up early the next day (which is today at 5 am) and drained an entire bottle on a completely empty stomach.

There were absolutely no effects. No energy, no nausea, nothing.

IM about to go back to sleep.

This stuff is amazing ,my martial arts instructor turned me on to it.I do xma (the high energy, fast paced, flips and tricks kinda stuff)and redline gives me that edge to take my training to another level.I higly recomend this to anyone who is very active. as for side effects yes it does make me sweat double than i normally do ,and the first time i drank a redline i didnt read the bottle i chugged it,then and only then did i get the shivers.Personally i recomend drinking lots of water with the redline the more you sweat the more electrytes you lose, dont want to waste all the enegy now do you?

paul isnt telling the truth

No way there’s 12g of caffeine in there – that’s gonna kill ya after half a bottle, dude.

Reamond November 18th, 2007 11:29 am

There’s 12g of caffeine in STRAIGHT redline, not the energy drink at the top of the page. In the straight Redline bottle, there’s at least 60 servings

I think red line was a great way to have fun, but I was wondering if it is acctually even good for you. If i had too much, what would it do to me? And, if i had one every day from today on, would I mess up my diet?

I enjoyed the drink, don’t get me wrong, but I can’t help but to think about the conciquences.

Just so you guys know the FDA allows 68mg per 12oz in the United States for any beverage classified as a soda/cola/etc. but has much looser restrictions on supplements and dietary supplements which is why we’re seeing a lot of drinks labeled as such now.

Nobody is honestly gonna pay that much for the redline concentrate and down half the bottle in a few mins, unless of course they’re utterly stupid. A good competitor for redline is spike. Spike has, i wanna say about 50mg more caffeine than redline but lacks the evoburn and other ingredients, but it does also have a variety of flavors. It’s also cheaper for the 4 pack most of the time but if you’re sweating and shaking over the 250mg of caffeine the 300mg in spike is give you a major kick. Still i like em both alot

Redline is now being sold at Exxon and Shell stations.

Christie January 8th, 2008 12:02 pm

I really like this product for athletes and people who train hard in the gym. However, it offends me that it is being sold as an “energy drink” at gas stations. I picked one up at a gas station, not knowing what it was, expecting the “wings” of Red Bull but instead got the “fighter jet” that is Redline RTD. I drank a whole bottle of Redline RTD at 5 p.m., had several sources tell me later that night I seemed “coked out,” slept for one hour that night, and reorganized my entire house the next day.

I’m an athletic female and drink coffee and diet coke on a daily basis, although not religiously. All I’m saying is that I’m used to caffeine, and I used to take Ephedra back in the day. That said, this Redline RTD is serious business and shouldn’t be taken lightly, as a consumer at a gas station would.

Christie January 8th, 2008 12:04 pm

One more thing – the makers of Redline RTD need to take it off mini mart shelves ASAP before some whiny person has a shit fit or worse, randomly has a heart attack or something, sues, and gets this stuff banned. Like I said, I like it for fat burning and cardio energy and would be bummed if it stopped being sold.

Jane January 10th, 2008 12:19 pm

HOLY SHIT! I drank this at work after being up until the middle of the night with my kids with the flu….I am shaking, sweating, my pupils are dilated, my heart is racing…worse yet, episodic giggling! i am a registered nurse….this stuff needs to be BANNED!

chris January 23rd, 2008 8:30 am

redline doesnt do anything to me. not even the straight stuff. i buy that stuff off the internet and drink it like water after a hard workout, and ive never felt a thing. redline tastes good but i wish itd do something to me.

Geoffrey January 25th, 2008 6:42 pm

Chris, you are a liar. Who drinks it after a workout, rather than before, to take advantage of the benefit? Additionally, redline tastes like something akin to pure jet fuel with cherry cough syrup thrown in. It’s not good, no one savors the flavor; you pound it, make a ridiculous face or stoically choke it down, and go about your merry day at twice your usual running pace.

DannyV February 18th, 2008 7:25 pm

What do you mean 12grams??? the article said it has about 250mg in 4 oz plus all the other stuff.

i think it is awesome. A co-worker of mine turned me on to it. I don’t take it everyday but when I get home from a 10 hour shift, I really don’t have the energy to workout, but man I take it, and voom!!! I love it, it is much better than redbull or any other drink of the same nature. The first time I took it I drank it on an empty stomach and I did feel alittle silly, with the feeling that i needed to laugh, almost buzzed!!

DannyV February 18th, 2008 7:26 pm

yeah, why the heck would you take it after a workout.?

Daniel March 1st, 2008 6:00 pm

I have been drinking the rtd’s first thing in the morning before cardio since they came out and love them, the taste isn’t good but nothing get’s you going like redline. I love how they sell them at gas stations now,i can pick one up to drink on my lunch break.
