Rockstar Zero Carb: Too Much Caffeine?

During research for the caffeine database, we came across some interesting caffeine levels in Rockstar Zero Carb (check out the Rockstar graph).

This energy drink boasts that it contains 50% more caffeine than other Rockstar drinks.

Rockstar already pack a reasonable wallop of caffeine – so what does the Zero Carb have? A close read of the nutrition label tells us that:

  • 16oz can has 240mg caffeine.
  • 24oz can has 360mg caffeine.

Congratulations Rockstar – you now have what is arguably the most potent energy drink on the market.

Has anyone tried Rockstar Zero Carb? It has a very similar formulation to Sugar-Free Rockstar – in that it is sweetened with ace-k and sucralose (Splenda). However Zero Carb lacks some herbal ingredients such as Panax ginseng, Milk thistle, and Ginkgo Biloba.

You can buy Rockstar Zero Carb here.

THE REASON YOU FEEL “HAPPY” is because of the ingredient Yerba Mate. It makes you upbeat AND focused. Interestingly, my sister went to a seminar on Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) for research. The lecturer — a sufferer of ADD and OCD — said that one of his favorite drinks is Rockstar Zero Carb because of that ingredient! It helps him to focus! So I drank it while cramming for law school finals. And it really does keep you on track!

This is by far the best energy drink out there! It’s so refreshing and sweet, I look forward to drinking it in the morning. It reminds me of a berry gum when you first chew it, I love it! Plus it’s sugar free, so I feel good drinking it.

It tastes like blue-berries, I always get sleepy after drinking it – early crash maybe? Had three today, yuuuum.

Rockstar Zero Carb is simply the best of the sugar-free energy drinks I’ve tasted (so far).

As far as taste goes, Original RockStar is still by far and away my favorite, but the new zero carb stuff has an awesome kick, and the flavor isnt bad either. My sister happened to pick up a whole case of each for free at some trade show or something. At first I was disappointed that she only got one original, but now that Ive tried it, Im very glad she got both! Rock on RockStar!!!

How potent is caffeine compared to taurine? Also, is the lack of guarana in Rockstar Zero Carb when compared to Rockstar Juiced compensated by Zero Carb’s ridiculous caffeine content?

I bought one of each of the above in 16 oz cans, cause I need to do a lot of homework today. Just wondering which one is more powerful overall. I mean, I know it’s not aderall or anything, but I guess it’ll do.

I’ve never had it, but something important to note about heavy caffeine indigestion is that it depletes the body’s Magnesium and Potassium levels. These are important for smooth heart functions. Depletion in this can cause heart fluttering or palpitations. Which I bet many of you have experienced and passed it off as a random thing. I identified this problem in myself after experiencing frequent palpitations. I then took magnesium supplements and seriously it was just GONE.

I usually drink espresso drinks & hate the taste of energy drinks. I have tried many because my boyfriend is an energy drink junkie! He recently bought one of the zero carb Rockstar drinks & had me try it. I love it! It tastes like fruit punch, without the vitamin taste of most energy drinks. I can’t believe it has only 10 calories per serving!

Can rockstar increase amphetemine levels when 3-5 are consumed along with seraquil and welbutrin??

Lately I’ve been hooked on Rockstar Zero Carb I think i’ve had 5 or 6 in the last 3 days. I love the kick I don’t find the crash to bad and I do agree with the happy feeling. I’ve heard people say rockstar is horrible for your heart any truth on this?

JW September 15th, 2009 6:23 am

The happy feeling (atleast for the regular Rockstar) is most likely due to the addition of the ingredient Inositol. “Some preliminary results of studies on high dose inositol supplements show promising results for people suffering from problems such as bulimia, panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, agoraphobia, and unipolar and bipolar depression”. Yerba Mate also has been sited to behave like MAOI (no study reference).
