Mother Energy Drink

Coca-cola is pouring $10 million (Australian dollars) into marketing a new energy drink called “Mother”. The drink will be released in Australia – where Red Bull and V hold a massive 94% of energy drink sales at convenience stores.

Coca-cola has had no luck in cracking the energy drink market down under (Lift Plus and Burn). They will be marketing Mother to young men as an all-natural drink with attitude; the branding on the cans is gothic and reminiscent of a tattoo. (via Sydney Morning Herald).

Interesting name – Mother. Imagine all the one liners they could come up with.

I drink the new mother drink which isn’t too bad. nothing special about it other then the price of the can. I’m just waiting for the price to go up and then me and most other people will stop drinking it.
Also i found the warning on the can is childish and very sexist with the comment ” the legal guys made Coke warn the customers not to feed the drink to kids, and UP THE DUFF WOMEN ????? what the hell was the are they thinking when they said up the duff women ?? is that supposed to be respectful for pregnant women warning not to drink the stuff as it maybe harmful !!!! if that’s so its a very poor way of putting it.

“Also i found the warning on the can is childish and very sexist” – Roulz

this is just one example of how informal language is becoming more socially acceptable. Australia is a laid back nation, and this warning is suitable for their target audience. This also acknowledges out Australian value of larrikanism.
just think the chasers Euology song.

“I studied the can afterwards and the only warning was don’t drink this whilst pregnant.” Meagan

It also says on the can for kids not to drink it, or individuals intollerant to caffeine. most people wouldn’t be affected by it in this way.

Your an idiot. your gonna give yourself heart failure. don’t go sueing coke after your diagnosed.

Personally i didn’t like the old mother. and yes that was because of the “overpowering Panax (Korean Ginseng) taste.” (Jay). but if they had of changed it slightly they would not have had the same comeback that they have had. no old-mother-haters would drink it if it didn’t have “Nothing like the old one” on the can.

My 14 year old teenager is addicted to these drinks and can drink anything up to 13 cans a day how many should you consume before having a heart attack and what are the medical side effects to the gurana, ginseng and Taurine as these are a very high dose and can be ingredients that people can get addicted too?

sorry tracey, but I hope your joking. where does she get the money to buy 13? Come on, do your job as a parent and set some boundaries.

I’m surprised in the diversity of opinions surrounding the old Mother. I’m a regular Red Bull drinker, and only had Mother once. I suppose I could’ve given it a chance, but it’s gone now so it’s too late, now the new Mother has been introduced. But it’s interesting that so many people reckoned the old one tasted like crap, and yet some others say they loved the taste and wish it was *back*.

Who was it that said history repeats itself? I could imagine “Mother Classic” being re-introduced. This seems unlikely though, given the widespread disdain for the original drink.

Or maybe, spending massive amounts for advertising for a crap drink, and then introducing a better version (with much less expensive advertising) is a closer representaion of the New Coke/Coke Classic scenario?

Tried Mother for the first time the other night, only because a friend had told me it tasted alot like Red Bull and it does. I had walked past it that many times in the supermarket and didn’t even think about buying it the can being so dark put me off buying it. It made me think is was a dark syrupy drink. Think they need a bit of colour on the cans!!! To make it take off.

Hey, i like the new mother, comes in a big 500ml can instead of the 250ml which is a bonus, also cost the same as the other energy drinks but you get more bang for your buck, i never tried the old mother to be honest, i drank redbull until i saw the new mother on the shelf just had to try it.

From what i hear the old one has an acquired taste, either you like or you don’t, i’ll have to try it sometime if i can find it, so far i can only find the new one.

Geoff December 22nd, 2008 4:12 am

They’ve stuffed it up again. The old Mother was very much an aquired taste. My joke was that it was called “Mother” because it tasted like something my Mother might give her kids as medicine. But I could drink it.

The new one is disgustingly, sickly sweet. I bought two on special, I pushed the first one down to see if I could get used to the taste. Then I threw the second ome away, its HORRIBLE.

Jesse December 29th, 2008 10:30 pm
