FDA Goes After Cocaine Energy Drink
I wondered how long Cocaine Energy Drink would be around - and now I have my answer. Redux Beverages have 15 days to get rid of the whole illegal drug vibe.
Here is the letter sent to Redux Beverages from the FDA.
Essentially, the FDA is saying that Cocaine Energy Drink can’t be marketed as a street drug alternative.
The following statements that are noted on your product container or on your website demonstrate that your product is intended as an alternative to an illicit street drug:
- Speed in a Can”
- “Liquid Cocaine”
- “Cocaine - Instant Rush.”
So why can’t the product be an alternative to a street drug?
Street drug alternatives are not intended to supplement the diet. 21 U.S.C. 321(ff). Accordingly, street drug alternatives do not qualify as dietary supplements
The FDA has also questioned the claims that Inositol “reduces cholesterol in the blood”.
It seems that Cocaine Energy Drink has had it’s 5 minutes of fame. 280mg of caffeine in 8oz was always a bit much to swallow anyway.

and what about meth coffee?
FDA *is*! Not “are”! Please: it’s so grating!
dont forget the XTZ line up either
Duly noted.
It seems like all the company has to do is lose the blatant illegal susbstance angle and everything should be fine. I also believe they should be able to keep the name of the product provided they lose the granulated font, assuming they must get rid of this in the first place. The company knew it was pushing the envelope and if it were not for all the current investigation into energry drinks, it possibly could have continued to go unnoticed. I can imagine they were anticipating some sort of backlash from the beginning and have an appropriate solution. If not they would not be coming out with two new variations of the drink, despite their highly suggestive names.
Ack… I say keep the name. If people are that dumb that they don’t know that real cocaine does NOT come in a can, then they deserve the outcome. Politically correct BS, save the stupid, sounds silly to me. Darwin all the way.
Why not just keep the name and lost the illegal drug angle?
I mean cocaine is just a word that is affliated with an illegal substance and I’m pretty sure that everyone knows it doesn’t come in a can.
I mean they do teach what drugs are in school now a days, so kids aren’t that stupid.
I have tried this drink and actually think it’s pretty good. THE NAME IS JUST PLAIN STUPID! It’s the association with the real thing that is causing the problem. Kids are curious! Trying one will eventually lead to the other!!! Change the name!! So, let me offer some new names for Redux… how about.. “KICK” “VOLTAGE” OR “AFTERSHOCK”?
It’s not *just* the drug reference. Yes, that is part of the problem. No, changing the slogan but keeping the drug name as the brand name won’t out”smart” the FDA. The biggest thing is that energy drinks are dietary supplements. It’s not that people will think real coke comes in a can, it’s that people will think [maybe because it's the way it was marketed] that you can “supplement” cocaine [an intense stimulant] use with this product [an intense stimulant]. Like it was stated before. This is not any suprise to the company. If it was to you, seek help. If you think something called COCAINE is only getting a bad wrap because it says “liquid speed” on the can, please disconnect your keyboard.
This product will stay in the market. I guarantee Cocaine will do something to work there way around it. The company may have to change stuff about it, but it WILL and I repeat WILL stay on the market and be the most popular energy drink. Anything with that much caffene with the crave of the energy drinks on the market will definitly sell. If they change the name, they will still be known as Cocaine or the brand that used to be Cocaine. This company will survive and I hope you all realize that the reason for this whole incedent is because of the fact that all of these “idiots” are upset because of the fact that the word “Cocaine” is the name and wrote on the side. This should be a good few years for this generation!
can i be sent a can before it gets taken off shelves i still haven’t tryed it but i dont see why they should take it off store shelves because of a name it seems unfare my local store dosn’t even carry it because of its name i’ve asked the owner personally and all they sell is monster and rockstar so ive never had a good caffinated energy drink and you’re one of the best, so that i’ve seen from the top caffinated drinks on energyfiend.com
I wish they had it here! DDAMN!
I have tried this before….it has a distinct cherry taste and burns…yes it burns going down. I don’t know if this was another attempt to simulate the real thing but I find it quite unpleasant. I have tried numerous energy drinks and I can’t really say this did much for me (and no, I am not a caffeine addict who is use to mass amounts.) The most I felt was lightheaded.
keep the drink… change the name….
i like the drink n dont want it 2 go so they should just change the name it would all work 4 us n we can all have the drink. n it has a really good tast 2 it
**FoxFire**

So, can they change the name and keep the drink, marketing it as “Brand X - The Energy Drink Formerly Known As Cocaine”?
