Drank: The Anti-Energy Drink

Superman has Lex Luther, Batman has The Joker, and now the energy drink has it’s own nemesis, Drank, the anti-energy drink.

Drank is being marketed as a drink that calms you down instead of hyping you up and was launched in Houston, Texas last Fall.

Drank is a carbonated, grape-flavored drink with added relaxation causing ingredients such as melatonin, valerian root, and rose hips.

The Drank website didn’t seem to be working, but according to the article in The Village Voice, Drank’s publicist, when asked if it worked, stated that yes it did and she heard that it mixes well with vodka. I guess it would work then, if it didn’t before.

The target market for Drank seems to be geared toward the hip hop community and I have found it mentioned on several such blogs.

Drank is available in the Southern US and will soon hit the shelves in New York. So who will win the battle for our energy Red bull or Drank?

I’m surprised there’s no mention of L-Theanine, not to mention downers and alcohol are usually a bad idea in the first place but hey, we’re talking about the states that invented Sizzurp.

this will be really cool for jetlag and things, i often have sleep disorders (staying too late at night, etc..)

i would love some in my fridge!

I think the purple color is supposed to reference to the drinking of cough syrup that is prevalent in a part of the hip-hop community down south. It is supposed to have the same effect – slows things down.

Sounds like a cool idea, although if you’re always drinking energy drinks the easiest way to relex might just be to put your feet up and not have any caffiene…

NOT have caffeine? Are you insane? Get off this website!

Dudewithareallyreallylongscreenname June 6th, 2008 6:34 am

Anti-energy = BAD :(

I’ve had a can for over a month and can’t find a reason to drink it. If I want to “slow my Roll” thats what they make alcohol for.

I predict massive failure.

Tramp June 8th, 2008 12:48 pm

why would you want to slow down??

Gin_no_Soyokaze June 9th, 2008 10:36 pm

Oh Gawd…slowing down isn’t going to replace my caffeine addiction. If I drink Drank, I’m just going to have to use even more Rawkstar to get to that level I want. Just thinking about getting off caffiene has me hallucinating and shaking. I can hear “Heart Shaped Box” in the background even though there’s nothing in my room playing.

If I wanna slow down a bit I switch from drinking NOS to drinking Mountain Dew. It slows me enough to sleep and keeps the detox headache away.

I’ve always wondered why people didn’t put Melatonin in drinks before. I’d probably prefer to just take Melatonin pills, though. Or just drink alcohol.

So are you supposed to have this before or after the redline?

I live in Houston and I tried one of these. It really messed me up. It didn’t feel good. I felt like I was dragging around for half a day. Just horrible.

Thanks for the links Drank but is there any way to purchase a sampler pack instead of buying lots to see if you like it?

KitCatKun November 5th, 2008 7:19 pm

Whoo! Sounds great! Safe to drink in public! I need that so bad in the evening or after a stressful day of school. =]
Or to jinx that annoying kid that won’t shut up’s drink.

If you’re in the DFW area, I found Drank at D&H Mini Mart, 800 Brown Trail, Bedford, TX 76022.
