France Lifts Ban on Red Bull

For the last 12 years, “real” Red Bull has been banned in France. This was due to the unknown health impacts of Taurine. Red Bull countered this by releasing a version without the Taurine.

The ban has now been lifted:

The French government was forced to legalise the drink because European Union regulations state that a product made or sold in other EU countries cannot be banned unless a health risk is proven,

The Guardian also reports that the French health authorities “remained sceptical about Red Bull’s safety, given the high levels of taurine and caffeine, suspected of causing “neurophysiological problems”.”

Red Bull is mild as far as caffeine content goes but it is high in taurine. There has been relatively little research done on Taurine (compared with caffeine).

Maybe they will let in other energy drinks as well. It’s not like RB is strong or anything.
