You Said It: Monster is the Best
A recent BevNet post claims that for the first time in a number of years, Energy Drink growth has slowed. This may be due to less traffic to gas station mini-marts and lower spending from some of the big drinks (Full Throttle, Sobe, and Rockstar).
Monster, however, has continued to gain market share. This agrees with our recent informal poll. We just closed off the poll after 536 votes and Monster is the winner by a country mile.
Here are the top 4:
- Monster (27%, 143 Votes)
- Rockstar (15%, 81 Votes)
- other (leave comment) (13%, 72 Votes)
- Red Bull (13%, 69 Votes)
“Other” included drinks like Von-Dutch, Bawls, Jolt Cola, Sobe, and even Cocaine Energy Drink.

Energy Drink growth has not slowed if you’re measuring it by number of votes. Your site’s posting has slowed dramatically since then, and along with it so has traffic.
The stats on energy drink market slowing aren’t related to the poll on this site, but a Bevnet article which mentions Longbow Research as their source.
I have been running a poll on our website for a while and its results are interesting; esp. compared to yours.
Cocaine 50%
Monster 17%
Redbull 15%
Rockstar 9%
Other 9%
There really is some consistancy between these two polls if you remove the anomalies.
Ahh ok, I see the link now for the BevNet article. That was not there when I posted.
Not the best but the most popular. Big difference. I’m not surprised. Monster is THE drink for most younger kids. It is the coolest to drink and be seen drinking. It’s not bad but it’s not the best.
You never asked for my vote and many others who say cocaine is much better than lame Monster drink that taistes like lame RedBull… Come off get a real poll and do a public survey.
Cocaine rates up as one of the WORST drinks out there…
Why is monster number 1? Because it has the best taste, plain and simple. It could come in a pink can and be called Snozberry Juice and it’d still be my top pick!
well geoff, you had over three weeks to vote in the pole on energyfiend. It was a public survey dude.
It is true though, I’d prefer to see more posting. Most of the widespread products are already listed and the new or smaller market products could wait a few days. I appreciate the effort and info from the database/calculator, but we are all here to discuss what we love, not just crunch the numbers. From the number of votes in the poll after it being open for two weeks, I’d say that there are others who agree with me, and have just given up or started following other blogs. I’m still here, but would like to see more content.
Jamey, you crack me up! Cocaine was one of the most solid of all I have ever had - once you get over the coughing and sneezing. Sad to see the smaller guys did not make a bigger impact. At least full throttle did not take over.
I think that one of the biggest selling points for Monster is variety of flavours. There are at least four different flavours at any given gas station/convenience store. Including the Java flavours, I believe that there are fourteen flavours. And there is the BFC which is great for making many mixed drinks at parties.
The product is okay but the marketing is great.

Not to mention you can buy Monster in those giant XXL cans (with or without the twist off cap) for about the same price as most other drinks.
Really? I think Monster is pretty awful.
Interesting. I prefer Rockstar to Monster, but the new Monster Coffees are pretty decent.
All of their fizzy drinks have a weird bubblegum/banana aftertaste, though.

Why?
It does not have a lot of caffeine nor does it taste like special.
