Java Monster: Not Your Average Joe

The fizzy soda-like consistency and sweet flavors of today’s energy drinks just don’t cut it for those who prefer their caffeine fix “old-school” in a cup of coffee. When our favorite energy drink makers discovered this, they got their beverage chemists hard at work to create unique drinks mimicking the standard cup of joe. What we have here is, Java Monster, Monster’s shot at winning over this new market gap in the world of energy drinks. The question is, can this new creation combine the best of a good grind and an upbeat beverage?

Flavor

Canned iced coffee drinks can sometimes be a hit-or-miss deal with today’s consumers used to a fine-tuned coffee or espresso from home, or a place like Starbucks. This particular flavor of Java Monster I had on hand was dubbed “Mean Bean”. Formulated with a sweet taste paired and a creamy consistency, it’s a pleasant drink that appeals to more than just the coffee connoisseurs out there. Mixed with filtered water and skim milk, it’s not too heavy or too thin, having the depth of what would be an average bold roast. At fridge temperatures, Java Monster has a satisfying taste, especially to those who love a sweet cup of coffee.

Ingredients

This particular Monster contains 160mg of caffeine, 200mg of panax ginseng, guarana, and a full set of B-vitamins and amino acids. Despite its aggressive tree-bark can and radical carved M, this can’s contents fall right into the pool of other average 16oz drink formulas. With a typical caffeine mg/oz concentration and no special ingredients to mention, Java Monster is nothing that we haven’t seen or drank before, just in a different form.

Energy

Java Monster provided a moderate energy boost that didn’t have me bouncing off the walls, nor feeling lethargic - it was just right to push me out of the morning sag and into go-time. At 10 mg/oz, this Monster variation has a very similar caffeine concentration to the rest of its drinks and many of the other 16oz competitors, such as Sobe No Fear and Rockstar, if not slightly higher. It features standard trace amounts of guarana and ginseng common in many energy formulas - the effects of which were not overly noticeable.

For those who want more edge from the morning joe, you can find it in the Java Monster. This unique version tastes great and will have you going strong - but don’t expect to be exalted into an upper state of consciousness.

Up here in Canada, this Monster runs two bucks less than the average venti Starbucks brew - a good reason to try this particular Monster out!

I hate to mention it, but these have been out for a really really long time. But whatever, I like these but I prefer the rockstar roasted ones.

These have been out for a while, but I appreciate that the full spectrum of drinks is being reviewed. Go for the Irish version, it works great in pepping up mixed drinks!
