Review: Ole’ Energy
With a name derived from the spirit of sports fans, Ole’ Energy aims to capture the essence of the fanatic hype and cram it into a can. If you’ve ever been to a sporting event, you know that there is an ecstatic amount of energy in cheering on your favorite athletes to victory.
This type of marketing is often found in the success of other energy drinks like Red Bull. The question is, will we feel the stadium energy in Ole’?
Flavor
Ole’ initially flows with a sweet taste and moderate carbonation - then hits you with a mild tang to round out the experience. I enjoyed its unique flavor, likening it to a candy in terms of its sweet and sour edge. Going down more like a pop than an energy drink, it is definitely a great approach to cater to thirsty people who aren’t looking for the odd tastes found in other energy drinks. The tang may be due to its’ citric acid content, but may also be supplemented due to the adaptogenic herbs it contains.
Ingredients
Described as “ADX7 technology”, this can contains a plethora of adaptogenic herbs and a standard dose of caffeine to get you in gear. Ole’ describes it as about as much of one cup of coffee, which ranges around 100mg.
The herbs are the interesting part - eleuthero root and leaf, aralia manshurica, rhaponticum carthanoides, rhodiola rosea, and schisandra. In a nutshell, these various herbs are said to reduce stress and have healing effect on the body, as many of them are rooted in natural medicine. They may also have a factor in Ole’s exceptional taste.
Energy
Giving in to my sweet tooth, I downed this drink very fast and it conjured up a noticeable energy effect. It felt very similar to other drinks, mostly due to it’s caffeine content. I was able to focus much better on my studies and then a quick round of FPS gaming. I’m skeptical on the short-term effects of the herbs, however, this drink has given me enough of a lift already. It’s just right for someone looking for an enjoyable drink with a good balance of energizing ingredients.
True to its sporting roots, Ole’ offers an enjoyable pick-me-up that doesn’t exactly rival the energy packed in a stadium, but it comes pretty close. I would recommend this on its sweet-and-sour taste alone!
