Dollar Store Energy Drinks?
Do you want the good news or the bad news concerning energy drinks?
Well, I’m giving you both whether you like it or not. The good news is it’s now easier to get your daily energy drink fix at a much cheaper price!
According to Bevnet.com, more and more energy drinks are showing up at discount “dollar” stores. Jon Auspitz, president of Wham Food and Beverage Company, a company that buys excess stock from other companies and then donates it to charity or sells it to discount stores says,
“There’s almost more supply than he can deal with – and not just from small startups that shutter their offices. There’s more energy out there than anyone can handle,” he said. “I don’t have to tell you how many brands there are. It’s crazy.”
Now for the bad news. Energy drinks haven’t been immune to the economic crisis we are now in and basically have too much unsold stock on their hands. Bevnet says,
“While the energy drink market continues to grow – up 13.5 percent September 2008 according to Information Resources Inc. – that growth has slowed significantly. IRI reported that the category expanded at more than double that rate – 34.4 percent – in the 12 months ending on July 15, 2007.”
Let’s hope your favorite brand doesn’t get the chop as businesses seem to be folding left and right. Why not head down to Big Lots and stock up just in case.

Brian, I get the Lost 24oz cans over Dollar Tree here but I will have to check Big Lots, I LOVE the guava ones!
I’ve bought energy drinks at Big Lots before. I’m not sure about the energy drinks, but with some of their items you have to check the expiration date. I’ve found food items well past expired on the shelf.
they’ve always had pretty cheap Jolt at my local Big Lots, also, the expiration date on energy drinks probably doesn’t matter too much as compared to other foods, as long as it’s not like a year past expire
I am all about the $1 Xenergy drinks at the dollar store. At one point, they even had Rockstar and a couple other popular drinks. <3
Expiration dates on energy products should be taken a bit seriously since they contain medicinal ingredients. Plus if they have been sitting for ages you will have some settling of the mix and it won’t be as effective.
Just went to the Big Lots today. Got 16 drinks for just north of $10 with tax. They had Jokerz (regular and juice versions), Red Devil (which tasted horrible) and some coffee energy drink called Frappio. All of them were priced at 60 cents each! Even better than dollar store prices! They also had giant 24 oz cans of Lost in 12 pack cases for $8.00. If they really are just repackaged Monster drinks like the huge database says they are I will have to go back for 3 or 4 cases.
When i went home for my brothers wedding i went to the Dollar Tree and bought a bunch of the 24oz Lost 5o energy drinks they where a buck a can we used them to make the best tasting Yag bombs i have ever had cant taste the yag if you use lost 5o

I bought a 12 pack of 24oz Guava Rockstars from my local Big lots for 8 bucks. Great deal, I hope this doesn’t mean my favorite energy drink company is having issues.
