Blue Storm Energy Drink

The 8.3 ounce can of Blue Storm may be short in stature, but it sure does have a lot to say. “Get Ready to Unleash the Animal Within” the tribal font squawks from the top of the can.

Further down it’s “Unleash Yourself!” in several languages. I’m also informed that this drink is “High Impact”. It’s good that the can has so much to say about itself because I’ve never heard of Blue Storm and I’m not sure what it’s all about.

With no particular expectations (aside from my sincere hope that the actual animal within me stays leashed); I dive in…

Taste

Blue Storm is not blue. I guess when I said I had no particular expectations I was overlooking the obvious expectation that a drink called Blue Storm be blue. It is the typical pale yellow of any generic energy drink. While the color is surprising the taste, sadly, is not. It is a typical Red Bull clone in that it tastes a fair amount like Red Bull; where it ceases to by typical is in the aftertaste. Bitter medicine aftertaste ruins any shot at this drink being a passable alternative to the original.

Ingredients

After perusing the label and doing research on their website, I was still unable to determine the amount of caffeine in this drink. It contains B-vitamins and Taurine as the only other energy ingredients.

Energy

What is the saving grace for any mediocre tasting energy beverage? A massive caffeine buzz. Unfortunately, Blue Storm fails to deliver the goods once again. I drank two back to back trying to “Unleash Myself” and only managed to generate a headache and a horrible taste in my mouth. I’m sure there was plenty of caffeine in me by that point, but it didn’t give me that good, clean rush of energy.

Verdict

I’m not sure what Vercordia, makers of Blue Storm, are going for here. There’s no shortage of underwhelming Red Bull clones out there and c-store cooler space is limited. I know I wouldn’t be a repeat customer after trying one of these. I think they may have spent more time on the branding than making a unique product that has a role to play in this expanding market. Problem for them is, I can only be tricked into buying this stuff once.
