Calm down and put down your pitchforks for Good Night Relaxation Drink is not the work of Satan, but the work of a genius.

Some smart cookie out there has made a drink that makes you sleep like a baby and feel like a god in the morning.

Taste

I struggled a little bit to define this flavour of Good Night, however, it tastes a little bit like slightly fizzy pears and apples. Whilst I normally like a stronger flavour I felt as though this matched the idea behind the drink as a light and refreshing tipple just before bedtime.

Good Night Ingredients

This relaxation drink uses a combination of melatonin, lavender, and rose hip to help put the drinker under. It must contain some other stuff, but I couldn’t find the ingredients in English listed anywhere.

Effect

I think it’s very rare for a drink to fulfill its marketing pitch, however, in this case I have to agree with everything <a href="http://www.goodnightdrink.se"target="_blank">the website has to say about Good Night. I am by no means a stress free person and on the day I tried the drink I think I was probably more stressed and hyped up then normal. I cracked open Good Night Relaxation Drink and within probably 30 minutes I was asleep (which is really rare for me). When I woke up I was refreshed and pretty energized (even without my wake up coffee).

Good Night Drink Verdict

Apart from a slightly spaced out feeling I had after drinking it (which might have had nothing to do with the drink), this stuff is amazing. It tastes good, it made me sleep like a baby and it gave me an amazing amount of energy in the morning. If you are like me and find yourself struggling to sleep or distressed then crack open a can of Good Night.

With just a slight adaptation, this easy eggnog can become super-charged, party all night eggnog.

Ingredients

1 can of sweetened condensed milk
1/4 to 1/3 cup of good bourbon or rum
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 pint of whipping cream, whipped
1/2 gallon milk
Freshly grated nutmeg
11, 100mg Caffeine Tablets

Optional:
For virgin eggnog use 2 teaspoons rum extract.

Caffeinated Eggnog Directions

Wisk all of the ingredients together except for the caffeine tablets and save one cup of milk. Heat the milk in the microwave 2 minutes until hot. Dissolve the caffeine tablets in the hot milk. Add the hot milk caffeine mixture to the eggnog and stir.

You can play around with the caffeine content, but this recipe would give you about 100mg of caffeine per 8oz serving, just don’t overdo it. If you happen to have some 5150 Semisweet Liquid Caffeine on hand, this would be even better. Make sure you tell your guests or friends that this eggnog contains caffeine and if you’re underage stick with the virgin version of the recipe.

Also, if you’re really lazy, just add some caffeinated milk to the store bought carton variety.

Enjoy and Happy Holidays from Energy Fiend!

Just think about it. Soda was the first energy drink, starting with Pepsi® or Coca Cola®. Then that wasn’t enough and Mountain Dew® came along to energize people.

Yet then Mountain Dew wasn’t enough, and people wanted more caffeine! So it just makes sense to continue catering to people’s need to get through the day with a more energized cola.

So needless to say, I’m more than eager to try the Flatt Energy Cola that was sent out to me by the company.

Taste

As I pop the top of this 8oz Flatt Cola, I get a familiar scent, not of an energy drink, but of a can of Coke. Good start! As I try it, a smile builds across my face. When the powered cola hits my taste buds, I find it’s nearly identical in taste to your normal Coca Cola, yet it’s the second half of the taste that makes the drink.

The drink starts as a Coca Cola twin, yet transfers to more of a frozen coke syrup taste (a sweeter cola) without the brain freeze. Making Flatt a great drink to go along with dinner or a good flavor pick me up.

Flatt Cola Ingredients

The ingredients in Flatt are nearly identical to what you will find in any 8 oz energy cola. 110 calories from the 28g of sugar. Caffeine is a solid 65mg per can. I did notice they threw in a bit of vitamin C which makes Flatt a bit different.

Effect

The effect was somewhere between a regular soda and an 8oz energy drink. I did get a rush, but nothing to much and nothing lasting more than 30 minutes or so.

Flatt Cola Verdict

Yes, the energy level wasn’t the highest I ever had, yet the taste of Flatt Energy Cola was much better than most. This is definitely an everyday energy cola. I can drink it with a meal or in-between meals for an added boost.

You could even drink Flatt as a dessert. Sweet enough without being too sweet. Just to put it simply, I am a Big fan of Flatt Energy Cola. A better choice then Rockstar Cola or Red Bull Cola.

We thought some of you might enjoy a trip down memory lane with us.

Today it’s pretty common for many of the new caffeinated drinks that are released to not make it because of the extremely tough competition that exists in beverage market.

However back in yesteryear, during a friendlier time for new drinks a few soda’s became iconic but alas, just like the dinosaur, they were met with forces they couldn’t possibly adapt too.

1. Josta

This was my first introduction to guarana back in the 90′s. I must say, I wasn’t a fan. I tried it a couple of times, but I remember it having a strange taste.

2. Kick

I vaguely remember Kick as a Mountain Dew contender. Even with it’s “extreme” advertisement, it was unable to steal the hearts of loyal Dew fans.

3. Crystal Pepsi

I loved this stuff back in the 80′s. I thought it was so cool that this clear soda tasted like Pepsi, but looked like Sprite. I was just a kid so I was easily impressed by such wonders.

4. Surge

Apparently another Mountain Dew nemesis that still has quite a following on the internet with it’s own facebook page, but I have no recollection of this drink. Do you?

5. OK Cola

Ok, I don’t remember this one either, but it sounds like it was marketed in the West and I’m an East Coast boy.

I hope you enjoyed this trip down memory lane, but if you’re under 25 this was probably as foreign to you as Monster would be to your Grandma. It will be interesting to see which of our iconic drinks survive in the decades to come. Any predictions?

Illicit Cola made by Demon Energy is a cola drink with some deep dark secret ingredients from deep in the “darkest recesses of South America” and now available to you in New Zealand.

With their girl about to kiss a girl, while a guy watches, suggestive website and a big as slogan “It’s good to be bad“, I’m not sure what they’re selling, but I feel dirty none-the-less.

Taste

Ah…this is a hard one…Cola, seems to come to mind. Illicit isn’t as good as Coke, but has good cola flavor with some other taste thrown in I couldn’t quite place. Wait, that must be the deep, dark secret ingredient!

Ingredient

Ok, I’ll cut to the chase. The sercet ingredient from South America is Yerba Mate which is why the flavor is slightly tweaked from standard cola. That’s really it and the caffeine content isn’t disclosed.

Effect

Illicit isn’t an energy drink, but a higher caffeinated soda. Something in this drink made my throat and esophagus feel strange which could have been the yerba mate as I haven’t had many drinks with that ingredient in it.

Verdict

Not a bad product as far as cola drinks are concerned, but Illicit in my opinion has gone a little overboard with the marketing of this drink. Come on, It’s just cola with yerba mate in it. It’s not illegal, forbidden, disapproved, unlicensed, or rebellious as the can defines.

That is the current American National Debt and to knock off 24 Billion of that over the next 4 years the Senate is thinking about taxing your energy drinks and sodas.

Of course they claim that this is in the name of helping stupid Americans make better food choices because they need big brother to tell them what they should or shouldn’t eat.

A few months ago we wrote about the State of New York trying to pass a similar bill. It, fortunately, got voted down, but it does make you think about how much money could eventually be tacked onto our beverage of choice. For instance, if your state passes a 10% tax and then the Feds pass a similar tax, you could be paying around 20% more… Crazy.

I personally get tired of the government controlling more and more parts of our lives. Doesn’t being American mean that we are free to make our own decisions concerning things like our health?

Besides I get sick of politicians trying to act so benevolent when all they are really trying to do is raise taxes in a creative way and make more money.

What do you think?

From their unique holiday sodas rumored to taste like a delicious slice of turkey to their most basic green apple, the Jones Company has long enjoyed a prime spot in the soda market.

Up until recently however, they had limited success with their energy drinks. Although Jones Energy was one of the original drinks I discovered with a more than usual caffeine kick.

However, with the follow up Big Ol’ Can of Whoop Ass, Jones realized thinking within the box was only providing success in niche markets.

That being said, as of March 2009, Jones brings forth their prodigy child, Jones GABA.

Coming in four less than normal flavors, GABA can be found in Lemon-Honey Tea-Juice, Nectarine Tea-Juice, Grapefruit Tea-Juice, and Fuji Apple Tea-Juice. The entire drink is based off of a natural “brain-boosting” chemical called GABA. Although seemingly free of caffeine this GABA is supposed to relax, invigorate, and do whatever else you placebo yourself into believing, but the question really is, do we want relaxing, sedative-like chemicals in our drinks?

If anything, this drink left me too relaxed to want to finish this review. Good after a long day of work and stress, bad for getting anything productive done. You can decide if that’s what you’re looking for.

With the depression of caffeine withdrawals slowly nipping at my veins, I figured I’d evaluate this drink from a juice-soda-tea perspective. All the flavors except one lean almost entirely towards tea. The sole leader for taste is without a doubt, Fuji Apple. Taking a sip, one can barely taste the exotic pleasures of tea. The apple comes across distinctly candy-like, think green Jolly Ranchers. Though I’ll be the first to admit some might find the drink too sweet for their liking.

As a common drink, I can find very little wrong with Jones GABA. But this site isn’t dedicated to the common drink. This site finds the drinks people are scared to confront, the drinks that come with warning labels and toxic symbols.

Comparing Monster to Jones GABA is like, well, comparing Fuji Apples to Oranges. As an energy drink, this isn’t what caf-fiends are looking for, unless of course coming down from an unpleasant stimulant high.

According to Bevnet, beverage giant Coca-Cola is being sued by a small company called High Voltage Beverages.

High Voltage claims that Coke has been marketing their drink Vault, which has a similar sounding name as their beverage Volt, as a way to basically shut them down.

Vault has been on the market since 2005, while Volt was just unleashed in 2007. However, High Voltage claims they filed for their trademark in 1997.

Let’s compare the two drinks and see what’s creating all the confusion among the so called ignorant consumers who obviously are believed not to be able to tell the difference between the word volt and vault.

So they both are green and citrus like. They both are a soda with extra caffeine. However, the logos are clearly different and the bottle designs are different.

I don’t get it. I don’t think I would be confused between the two. In fact it’s pretty insulting as a consumer to be labeled as stupid enough to not be able to tell the difference at the convenience store.

Mountain Dew should sue because on Volt’s website it states, ” When dew won’t do it”.

What do you think? Do think High Voltage Beverages has a case? Participate in the poll below.
