OK..you need to add andes mints to the list! Darn it..how can I find ut how many of my favourite mint will kill me if it is not on the list!

Also, you should, for Death by Caffeine, so some research into the australian sodas called ‘Red Eye’…just to be internationally friendly, and because I know I would want to know if I ever went to Australia how many would kill me!

Only 242 pieces of Jolt Gum to kill me?

I eat 20 a night and don’t have a problem falling asleep at night.

I am so sorry to dispoint you but there´s nothing serious about this site…nothing scientific to be more clear. How can you tell these kind of infos based only on the volume of cafeine consumed.
Have anyone thought about type of caffeine for example, or even that before dying of eating that much of chocolate/day you would firts feel sick and throw up, that means our own body rejects.
I guess who published this site would do much better if writting about having Kyoto protocol signed by USA, or do you think that hurricanes and all that it´s just a matter of bad luck?

Isabela: Here comes the Clue Train (choo choo!), last stop: You.

There is something scientific about this. The amount of caffeine that causes death in people is a relatively well-established range. This calculator takes that well-established, scientific range, applies your body weight to it (since, of course, caffeine toxicity is relative to mass), and comes up with a number. That number represents how many grams of caffeine it would take to put you in the LD_50 category. It then takes the number of grams, figures out how many chocolate bars or sodas it would take to make that much caffeine, and spits out that number.

It’s as scientific as the study I got my LD_50 from, which was an academia research paper.

I’ve already covered in an earlier post that yes, it’s almost impossible to consume enough caffeine to die of caffeine poisoning. With chocolate, you’ll likely go into insulin shock, or simply won’t have the stomach capacity to eat it all. In addition, it takes time to digest, so the half-life (another sciency word) of caffeine would become a factor. With liquids, again, insulin shock, electrolyte dilution, damage from citric acid, etc.

This site is supposed to be fun. Were you always the girl that would tell other girls to stop playing with barbies because they aren’t realistic and promote a bad self-image? Tell boys to stop playing cowboys and indians because it’s offensive? Use the phrase “custodial engineer” instead of janitor? What a killjoy.

Candy Addict » How much candy will kill you? November 16th, 2005 10:28 pm

[...] I couldn’t find anything concrete on the site telling me where these numbers come from, but Energy Fiend has posted an online calculator that can tell you how much of a candy or mint (containing caffeine) it would take to kill you. It has things like Jolt Gum, Hershey’s Kisses, and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. Looks like it will take 12,285 Hershey’s Kisses to put me down. I don’t think I’ll be dying of a Hershey’s Kiss overdoes anytime soon. You can also see the caffeine content of a bunch of different mints and chocolate. [...]
