Four Loko The New Crack?

Alright, first of all I’m sick of reading news about Four Loko in my energy drink news feed. The media has milked this issue to death!

It’s not even an energy drink and the unfortunate people who were reported as harmed or killed by the product were hurt as the result of alcohol poisoning not caffeine overdose. I understand that caffeine can allow you to consume more alcohol, but again this is nothing new, Red Bull and vodka has been around for over a decade.

This situation annoys me because certain people are using it to give ALL energy drinks a bad rap and this is unfair. What is even more ridiculous is that the Feds are arresting people for selling Four Loko. With all the illegal drug trafficking that goes on in America and the destruction to society it causes, they are wasting tax payer’s money to investigate and arrest a guy selling some cans of Four Loko on Craig’s list.

What do you think about the Four Loko Issue?

Call me a nut, but since Sparks and irish coffee and redbull and vodka are all still ok with the fed, I think redbull and big beer is behind this ban. While the congress critters say it is the “unsafe mixing of caffeine and alcohol”, the only drinks that are banned contain caffeine and malt liquor. Basically big beer trying to squeeze out the niche drink market. Cuz a $2 four loko was better then a $6 six pack of piss.

Also, most if not all those who hurt themselves on four loko were UNDERAGE. College idiots have been overdoing booze forever, this is nothing new.
I enjoyed the beverage responsibly and now my govt wants to be my mother.

  • Unfortunately the fact that others can’t use moderation ruins such products for the rest of us. Four Loko was a fun drink plus a huge value but because it could not be used responsibly, it is no longer available.

Obviously the ban isn’t going to stop anyone from mixing any energy drink they want with what booze they want, so I don’t see why they had to ban Four Loko. After all, it is entirely the responsibility of the consumer to not go overboard. I mean, we’re banning drinks because idiots over indulge, why not ban cars because idiots speed and crash, which is even worse because that can cause the death of others.

It’s so sad this had to go, but then again its not a complete loss. The alchohol couldnt be tasted easily, so many college aged boys were getting girls to drink this stuff so they can rape them.

The press has used this as an excuse to kill all energy drinks. My mom decided I couldn’t have them any more because of all the injured and dead people because of this one drink! I mean I’m not even 21 so I can’t get that stuff anyway! This may have been the worst thing possible to happen to the energy drink companies.

Yeah alcohol and caffeine have been around for years and there was never an issue. But now because a couple of college kids don’t look at the lable and see that it is 12% and they get alcohol posioning, the gov. says that it must be the caffeine, nevermind the fact that it is 12% alcohol. So the gov. makes them take the caffeine out of it, well I can garauntee that there will still be just as many issues with kids getting alcohol posioning. I am however glad that they did not ban the drink all together.

Something to consider. @ gossipninja, this probably isn’t a conspiracy because sparks, tilt, and all of the other alcoholic energy drinks had already removed their caffeine. I have read that four loko is already being released in Texas as a new product without the energy component. So the cheap alcohol will still persist. Just no more caffeine premixed in it. You can still even see it directly from their website. Phusion, the company that makes four, already has other similar drinks.

At my local party store, they still sell all of the flavors of fourLOKO. Yup. No federal crackdown, no police issue, nothing – they’re still around here… Been meaning to try some when I get legal, potentially, just to say I did. ;)

This ban has in all likelihood done ZERO to cut down on people combining caffeine and alcohol. All you gotta do is put vodka in your energy drink of choice. This is a completely pointless ban, serving only for the politicians to be able to say that they “did something” about it.
