Kentucky May Ban Energy Drink Sales
Well folks expect an onslaught of anti-energy drink legislation this year in the wake of the FDA banning alcoholic energy drinks.
Kentucky Republican State Rep. Danny Ford is proposing legislation this January that will ban the sale of energy drinks to those under 18 in his state. He tried to push such legislation in the past, but lacked the support to pass it. He now believes in light of the latest evidence, he will have the support needed.
Really? A few cases of alcohol poisoning is justification to ban all energy drinks to minors? I fail to see the logic here and it amazes me how some people can be elected to government when they don’t seem to have a shred of common sense or reason.
If you love energy drinks and are one of the vast majority who drink them in moderation, perhaps you should take some action and write your congressmen. Stop big government from legislating your freedoms away. What do you think?

wow.. its sad how people freak out about a rare occurence, or kids being stupid and drinking 5 cans of nos and passing out, that they think its immediately so bad and will harm anyone who drinks it. especially when there is no scientific proof saying that it is harmful, or that it influences teens any more than it does adults.
It seems long island is doing something similar to this: http://www.energyfiend.com/2010/12/long-island-may-ban-energy-drink-sales-to-those-under-19
Still clear up here in Michigan. And I turn 18 next year so by the time they do actually ban it in Michigan, I’ll probably be pretty close to 18. And if not then my parents can buy it for me.
Well.. I happened to stumble upon an article that might help explain the situation about all the pencil pushing monkies that are inhabiting DC.

Yeah, so, what, kids under 18 can’t purchase Mt. Dew? How about coffee? An Americano from Starbucks packs more caffeine than a can of Red Bull.
Where do you draw the line, and how do you justify it?
basically some new york college kids drank 4 FOUR-LOCOS (high alcohol energy drinks) and it killed them. Now the government thinks ALL energy drinks are harmful to anyone under 18 (or 21). Even those without alcohol.
Also keep in mind it says RIGHT ON THE CAN that it contains high contents of alcohol and caffeiene and its only available to those 21 or over.
im 22 myself so if they make the law it wont affect me, but I still think its sad that 4 stupid kids create such a problem for the rest of us.
It would not be illegal to consume, only to purchase. The reason behind this is to make sure there is someone who is capable of realizing long term consequences. What I am referring to, is making an attempt to make it harder for teenagers to mix caffeinated beverages with alcoholic beverages. When I was in college I popped 1 no-dose while on a 12 hour drive and we almost had to find an ER. I know many of you will take offense to this, but it is the truth. Most people from the age of 15 to 25 1) think they are invincible 2) are to inexperienced to realize they are inexperienced and 3)don’t know 1/2 as much as they think they do.
Do I think putting an age limit on the caffeinated beverages will stop teenagers from mixing, no. But one of the biggest problems I have seen with sooo many Americans is that they think if they are able to buy it, it is completely safe and they don’t need to process possible consequences before they act. For instance my next door neighbor’s ex-husband fed his son 4 red bulls in a long drive and then was punishing the kid for his psychotic behavior in the car or the math teacher in my son’s middle school who thought it was a great idea to give Full Throttle’s out to kids as rewards in 4th period…..needless to continue on that one.
We have over done it with the “Big Brothering” and left ourselves in a position where we need to be “handled” because people have stopped thinking for themselves.
I think that there is something that hasn’t been considered.
I’m in high school, i’m 18, but i’ve been using energy drinks once or twice a month to help me with an all night homework marathon since the tenth grade.
The thing i see these deaths have i common is that they’re all related to kids being stupid. if they hadn’t killed themselves with alcohol and/or energy drinks, they would have probably found some other way to kill themselves like jumping off the roof of a three story house or doing meth.
