NRG: Caffeinated Potato Chips

chips.jpgIt had to happen.

We’ve already got caffeinated oatmeal, and even caffeine-infused sunflower seeds.

NRG takes it a bit further by somehow combining Taurine, Caffeine, and even B Vitamins into their “Phoenix Fury” Potato chips. The chips apparently have a “hot flavor”.

The energy chips come from Golden Flake – a company that already has a range of snacks. The bags come in two sizes – 1.75oz and 3.5oz.

Caffeine? Not listed anywhere. We’ll see what we can discover. Watch this space.

UPDATE: The maker claims the amount of caffeine in a 3.5oz bag is equivalent to 3 and a half cups of brewed coffee. Which seems crazy because we are talking around 350mg of caffeine! Something is not right here.

This will give me a reason to go back to potato chips from Doritos. Hmm…but what if they came out with caffeinated doritos? I’d probably never stop eating them.

  • Got to be better than the seeds. It took too long to eat a whole bag of sunflower seeds just to get the equivalent energy of 1 energy drink. Now with chips I could scarf down a bag pretty quickly and it would then be worth the effort.

But would the caffeine be in the potato chip itself or in the frying oil or on it like salt? All things to consider when caffeinating chips.

Did they ever find out exactly how much caffeine are in these potato chip bags?

I don’t understand why any company is exempt from listing what ingredients are inside of products people are consuming.

Why would they hide the fact there may be caffeine in these potato chips?

Better still, why are companies exempt from listing ingredients in foods like these potato chips?

It’s the 21st century, and we’re allowing these companies to act like it’s 1899 in regards to ingredients listings.

They should be required by law to list what is in these potato chips.
