Rockstar Zero Carb: Too Much Caffeine?

During research for the caffeine database, we came across some interesting caffeine levels in Rockstar Zero Carb (check out the Rockstar graph).

This energy drink boasts that it contains 50% more caffeine than other Rockstar drinks.

Rockstar already pack a reasonable wallop of caffeine – so what does the Zero Carb have? A close read of the nutrition label tells us that:

  • 16oz can has 240mg caffeine.
  • 24oz can has 360mg caffeine.

Congratulations Rockstar – you now have what is arguably the most potent energy drink on the market.

Has anyone tried Rockstar Zero Carb? It has a very similar formulation to Sugar-Free Rockstar – in that it is sweetened with ace-k and sucralose (Splenda). However Zero Carb lacks some herbal ingredients such as Panax ginseng, Milk thistle, and Ginkgo Biloba.

  • THE REASON YOU FEEL “HAPPY” is because of the ingredient Yerba Mate. It makes you upbeat AND focused. Interestingly, my sister went to a seminar on Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) for research. The lecturer — a sufferer of ADD and OCD — said that one of his favorite drinks is Rockstar Zero Carb because of that ingredient! It helps him to focus! So I drank it while cramming for law school finals. And it really does keep you on track!

This is by far the best energy drink out there! It’s so refreshing and sweet, I look forward to drinking it in the morning. It reminds me of a berry gum when you first chew it, I love it! Plus it’s sugar free, so I feel good drinking it.

It tastes like blue-berries, I always get sleepy after drinking it – early crash maybe? Had three today, yuuuum.

Rockstar Zero Carb is simply the best of the sugar-free energy drinks I’ve tasted (so far).

As far as taste goes, Original RockStar is still by far and away my favorite, but the new zero carb stuff has an awesome kick, and the flavor isnt bad either. My sister happened to pick up a whole case of each for free at some trade show or something. At first I was disappointed that she only got one original, but now that Ive tried it, Im very glad she got both! Rock on RockStar!!!

How potent is caffeine compared to taurine? Also, is the lack of guarana in Rockstar Zero Carb when compared to Rockstar Juiced compensated by Zero Carb’s ridiculous caffeine content?

I bought one of each of the above in 16 oz cans, cause I need to do a lot of homework today. Just wondering which one is more powerful overall. I mean, I know it’s not aderall or anything, but I guess it’ll do.

I’ve never had it, but something important to note about heavy caffeine indigestion is that it depletes the body’s Magnesium and Potassium levels. These are important for smooth heart functions. Depletion in this can cause heart fluttering or palpitations. Which I bet many of you have experienced and passed it off as a random thing. I identified this problem in myself after experiencing frequent palpitations. I then took magnesium supplements and seriously it was just GONE.

I usually drink espresso drinks & hate the taste of energy drinks. I have tried many because my boyfriend is an energy drink junkie! He recently bought one of the zero carb Rockstar drinks & had me try it. I love it! It tastes like fruit punch, without the vitamin taste of most energy drinks. I can’t believe it has only 10 calories per serving!

Can rockstar increase amphetemine levels when 3-5 are consumed along with seraquil and welbutrin??

  • Sarah

I have been drinking these for about a year. they got me threw beauty school. I also notice the happy feeling. I hope costco starts selling flats of this.

Lately I’ve been hooked on Rockstar Zero Carb I think i’ve had 5 or 6 in the last 3 days. I love the kick I don’t find the crash to bad and I do agree with the happy feeling. I’ve heard people say rockstar is horrible for your heart any truth on this?

  • JW

The happy feeling (atleast for the regular Rockstar) is most likely due to the addition of the ingredient Inositol. “Some preliminary results of studies on high dose inositol supplements show promising results for people suffering from problems such as bulimia, panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, agoraphobia, and unipolar and bipolar depression”. Yerba Mate also has been sited to behave like MAOI (no study reference).

The best energy drink out there, its very difficult to find in stores in upper westchester NY, but when i find it i load up on it… It tastes better than red bull and is by far a superior drink.

  • Matt.

i really really like this beverage.
when i had purchased the zero carb rockstar.
i had immediately just chugged it.
and within 15 minutes i felt like it was some sort of liquid ecstasy.
    the buzz was somewhat “indescribeable”
and i listened to some dubstep.
and it was something i had never tasted which makes it unique.
and i for sure am definitely hooked on now.

I love this stuff, but it’s so hard to find. Only place I know that carries it in NY/NJ/PA area is Wegmans, and they often only have the single cans in the refrigerated section at $2/can. Sometimes they have 4-packs at $6.49, and occasionally on sale at $4.99. I’ve been unsuccessful in getting them to stock more. They have other Rockstar drinks, but never enough of the Zero Carb. When I find it, I always clear the shelf. I go through quite a bit of this stuff, and really appreciate when I can get 4 for $4.99 as opposed to $2 per can.

This is the best tasting most addictive energy drink on the market. I had been drinking one sugar free redbull a day for the past 5 years and just one can of the 0 carb rock star made me switch. I do no get any “energy” or jitters from this drink but it does make me feel happy. I can barely stop at one. The taste is so delicious I crave it all day long and race out to buy it even when I say I’m going to quit. It’s like crack in a can. Problem is it is messing with my body hardcore and I have to quit. Since I started drinking this (2-3 weeks ago) I am hungry all the time and insanely bloated. Not just hungry but my stomach feels like it is eating itself and it hurts. I’m up at night wanting to eat. (Talk about aspartame overload.) Eating doesn’t help these side effects at all so there is no relief. My sugar free redbull never did this to me so I don’t know if it’s quantity or the extra ingredients. I tried only drinking half but it didn’t help and I’m dying for the rest of the can. Another good thing about this drink is that it still tastes good after hours of sitting in the fridge open. Switching to half a can gave me severe headaches.
So to sum this up, this is the best testing, super addictive drink that will chew up your stomach and spit it out. Try one at your own risk.
P.S. It will improve your workout to the point of over working out.

Rockstars make me feel really happy too! It’s like this inexplicable bliss! I drink them for that and not the energy boost….must be a secret ingredient ;)

  • twkelly
