The Top 15 Energy Drink Brands

redbull.jpgBevnet have published their annual review of the energy drink industry.

Here are the 15 biggest sellers for the year ended 31 December 2006.

Updated: Now you can see the top brands for 2007, 2008, 2010 as well! For some reason 2009 results weren’t published in Bevnet as they usually do. If we find them, we’ll be sure to include those as well. For 2010 they only listed the top ten, of which, 4 were versions of  Monster Energy so that only leaves us with the top 7… sorry.

Red Bull. What can you say? They sold 74.9 million units In 2006 and continue to be strong but loosing some ground. It’s amazing that  in 2010 they still are able to produce over 2.2 billion dollars in sales with such a simple product line.  It looks like The Monster is biting the heals of the Bull and poor Rockstar isn’t drawing in quite the crowds it used to.

A few surprises on this list. Von Dutch 2006, Jeff Gordon 2007, and Go Girl 2008? 2010 shows an impressive showing by Starbuck’s Doubleshot. Boy are we slaves to brand and energy drink marketing or what?

I really thought that Monster was closing in on Red Bull’s market share, but apparently not. Although, when you look at the list it has Monster and Monster XXL as separate items. Monster XXL is just Monster in a larger can so I don’t know why they wouldn’t be combined… still, that doesn’t leave Monster with as much market share as I would have imagined.

That’s insane that Von Dutch made the list. That drink is NASTY

  • hoble

I still mostly buy Red Bull. It tastes the best. Monster tastes fine, but has HFCS in it. Red Bull doesn’t.

Von Dutch is the nastiest one. Ick.

I’m surprised Bawls isn’t on there. I don’t drink the stuff, but still, I thought it was more popular.

  • Corn Videos

bawls is hard as hell to come by… Vondutch, wow, memories, i got 2 24 packs of von dutch at biglots, for $5 a case ie.(5 bucks for 24!). good price, made it taste much better

  • scum1

Yes Corn i also scored 2 cases of Von Dutch for 6 bucks a case at Big lots! You get used to the taste. it did the job and was cheap. I like the rip it as well for a great value. Glad to see it on the list. Big lots is a great place for energy drink value. You never know what you will find. I got Boo Koo and joker there a week ago for 60cents a can.

Monster rules! I would drink red bull, but it is way to much for an 8 ounce can.

  • Skooma

I thought Von Dutch made locks and door handles :/

I miss Bawls. I can’t get them at the local 7-11. I miss Bawls.

I don’t see why Red Bull is so popular =\ I tried it and wasn’t too impressed. The taste was nothing special, and it was too sweet, so I couldn’t finish the can. I didn’t get much energy either. And at $1 every 4 oz, it’s a good thing they don’t make a 16oz version, it’d be $4 a can.

To argue, AIM me with my throw-away screen name, cool10bot.

None of the size are proper to Canada and thus all the amounts are wrong

  • Deej

I can’t belive AMP was so low…. I tried it and besides Red Bull and Rockstar it’s the Best!! And…one question…How did Von Dutch even get manufactured? It’s discusting!!

  • Devon

Thanks for the info. Any chance you could publish a permalink to the Bevnet page? I can’t seem to locate this info on their site.

    Thanks much!

  • Caffeine Fiend

There is no permalink. You’ll have to subscribe to Bevnet before you can download the energy drink buyers guide.

  • Wanna be a Rock Star...

There’s a perfectly good reason Red Bull is #1 – it goes perfect with Vodka and Jeager…ever hear anyone order a Monster and Vodka. Of course not. Redbull is made sweet to lessen the harshness of liquor

  • Does anyone know the side effects of too much caffeine?

  • MNDET

Rockstar is without a doubt #1. Smooth, tastes great and gives you a boost. Red Bull is like medicine (well aren’t they all to a point?).

  • Brian

Man, that Red Bull. Even my kids are adding them to their booze drinks. The guys on his second or third billion from what I heard last year.

As, I’m older and wiser, I’m using A.C.T. and maybe because I’m a bit jealous of this guys billions, I’m selling ACT now also.

Energy drinks are one of the worlds fastest growing markets so I would like in on the wave.
Works great for me so I’m happy. About a third or quarter cost of Red Bull, etc.

    Cheers
